Role Description Reporting to the Manager, Underwriting, the Sr. Underwriter will work in a fast-paced environment with their primary responsibility to provide quality credit decisions on residential mortgage default insurance applications. This position is being posted to fill an existing vacancy within the department. - Underwrite and decision applications for residential mortgage insurance according to Sagen guidelines and policies, including the comprehensive review of appraisals. - Deliver best-in-class customer service by actively handling internal and external customer service inquiries raised by our customers and/or field staff. - Develop strong customer relationships with key lender accounts and promote the company’s products. - Effectively partner with Sagen’s sales team to provide underwriting and credit expertise to our customers and sales staff. - Proactively manage tasks within predetermined service level agreements and in accordance with operational risk controls. - Keep up to date on applicable legislation and the company’s policies, products, and procedures. Qualifications - Previous residential mortgage experience and working knowledge of real estate is an asset. - In-depth knowledge of credit risk analysis, residential underwriting practices, and mortgage lending products. - Strong analytical skills and independent decision-making capabilities, including demonstrated ability to apply problem-solving and risk mitigation skills. - Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment. - Excellent inter-personal and communication skills (verbal and written). - Strong customer service orientation and negotiating skills. - Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting to accomplish goals and complete tasks. - Ability to work shifts within extended hours of operations: 8:00am to 9:00pm EST. - University or college degree is preferred.
