The counselor provides advising and counseling support services to students in this division including but not limited to academic advising, career counseling, crisis triage and personal counseling. Position Responsibilities - Assess student and faculty needs within the division. - Provide career counseling to help students explore majors, identify career goals, and learn job readiness skills. - Provide individual personal counseling to help students navigate personal well-being and challenges that may affect academic success and connect students with relevant resources. - Provide crisis triage support and referrals when students face personal challenges that affect their ability to engage academically. - Maintain an academic advising load and assist students with academic planning, major/program selection, course registration, educational goal setting, navigate institutional and college policies and procedures, learn academic skills, persistence, retention, graduation, and/or transfer. - Work independently within the division to support a diverse student population in the areas of personal counseling, academic advising, career counseling, and crisis triage. - Facilitate workshops, counseling related programing, and/or support groups on a variety of psychoeducational and holistic wellness topics within the Division. - Actively serve as the counselor liaison within the Division. - Participate in faculty service to the college and broader community, including committee work, partnerships, and institutional initiatives. Salary Range: Salary and benefits will be based on the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF) and the State of Minnesota. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Salary min: $51,303 / Salary max: $71,893* (Column max: $94,542) *Existing faculty would keep their current salary or candidates with higher education levels could be placed higher in the salary range. Minimum Qualifications - Master's degree in counseling or counseling psychology. Preferred Qualification - Two years of experience providing educational counseling and academic advising in a college setting. - Experience in a community college or open-access institution, including familiarity with transfer systems, articulation agreements, career and guided pathways, and student success initiatives such as retention efforts and coaching. - Experience with crisis intervention and referral. - Knowledge of academic advising practices, career counseling principles, personal counseling techniques, assessment methods, and student development theory. - Experience using technology to support academic advising and counseling functions, including web-based tools, student information systems, and related software. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with students representing a wide range of interests, abilities, and life circumstances. - Strong public speaking, writing, electronic communication, and interpersonal skills.
