Title: Director, Cloud Computing Location: United States Job Description: Responsibilities Peraton's Risk Decision Group is seeking a Director of Cloud Engineering to architect, build, and lead our cloud organization from the ground up. This leader will define cloud strategy, manage multi-cloud environments, oversee AI integration, and drive the migration of legacy on‑premise systems into Azure and AWS. The role requires significant expertise in Azure, strong AWS experience, cloud database management, cloud cyber-security design, and compliance with FedRAMP, NIST 800‑171, and CMMC. The Director will build and manage a blended team of full-time employees (FTEs) and contractors and lead the design, development, implementation, and operations of secure cloud platforms and services. This is a 100% Remote position. Responsibilities: - Build, lead, and manage a blended cloud engineering organization consisting of full-time employees and contractors. - Design, develop, and implement cloud-based solutions, including cloud architectures, plans, and specifications. - Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to develop specifications for cloud-based products, services, applications, and solutions. - Drive the rollout, performance evaluation, and continuous enhancement of cloud management platforms. - Develop and expand the portfolio of cloud services and value-added offerings. - Create solution recommendations for cloud services. - Evaluate cost-benefit tradeoffs between cloud, virtual private networks, dedicated hosting, and on-premise solutions; identify high ROI opportunities for cloud deployment. - Lead hybrid‑cloud integrations connecting Azure and AWS to legacy and on‑premise environments. - Guide large-scale migrations of legacy on-premise applications, systems, and databases to Azure and AWS cloud solutions. - Oversee cloud database architecture, modernization, performance management, and security across relational and NoSQL platforms. - Architect cloud cyber-security designs aligned with zero trust, defense-in-depth, and compliance frameworks. - Lead and support FedRAMP readiness and accreditation for cloud workloads. - Ensure compliance with NIST 800‑171, CMMC, and other cybersecurity governance frameworks. - Perform operations and maintenance of secure cloud platforms, ensuring reliability, availability, and resilience. - Implement and maintain automation for operations, alerting, monitoring, and event auto-remediation. - Lead the integration of AI and machine‑learning capabilities into cloud platforms using Azure AI and cloud-native tools. - Manage AWS as a secondary multi-cloud environment for interoperability and resilience. - Implement cloud governance, FinOps, security best practices, and operational excellence. - Communicate strategy, roadmaps, status, and risk to executive leaders and stakeholders. Qualifications Required: - US Citizenship required. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance; active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication is preferred. - 16+ years in IT, cloud engineering, cloud architecture, or IT infrastructure leadership. - Extensive hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure (architecture, networking, identity, security, automation). - Strong experience with AWS architectures and services. - Proven success building and managing teams of FTEs and contractors. - Strong background designing and implementing cloud solutions and cloud-native architectures. - Experience developing cloud platform specifications and launching new cloud-based services. - Hands-on experience with hybrid-cloud integrations and large-scale cloud migrations. - Expertise in cloud database design, modernization, performance tuning, and security. - Strong cloud cyber-security design experience, including encryption, identity management, network segmentation, and threat detection. - Experience with FedRAMP accreditation processes and operational compliance with NIST 800‑171 and CMMC. - Experience implementing AI/ML solutions using cloud-native AI services. - Proficiency with automation, monitoring, auto-remediation, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, etc.). - Excellent communication and leadership skills, including executive-level engagement. Target Salary Range $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
