Staff Platform Engineer

Arvo

• Architect and evolve the internal platform (compute, networking, observability, security, deployment) as a product consumed by engineering and data teams • Provide technical leadership on initiatives that improve DORA metrics, reliability (SLOs, incident response) and developer experience • Establish and evangelize standards, paved roads and internal libraries that multiply team productivity • Maintain and evolve the data infrastructure (pipelines, warehouse, lineage) together with data engineers and data scientists • Design end-to-end observability, security and FinOps solutions • Write RFCs, ADRs and technical documentation that support long-term architectural decisions • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising the team's technical bar • Act as a technical partner to leadership in defining the roadmap and quarterly prioritization

Job Requirements

  • At least 5 years of solid experience in software engineering or infrastructure, with recent work on Platform, SRE, or equivalent teams
  • Deep expertise in at least one cloud provider (ideally GCP), with experience operating critical production workloads
  • Production-grade Kubernetes expertise — not just usage, but operation, debugging and cluster design decisions
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Strong experience with CI/CD, observability (metrics, logs, distributed tracing) and OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with orchestration of data pipelines (Mage, Airflow, Dagster) and data warehouses (BigQuery)
  • Proficiency in at least one production backend language (Go or Python)
  • Ability to influence cross-team technical decisions through written artifacts (RFCs, ADRs, design docs)
  • Fluent use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor or equivalents) as part of the daily workflow, with critical judgement about when to trust, verify and review generated output

This role supports Core Engineering needs within the organization and builds on top of existing engineering foundations such as observability, system reliability, developer productivity, identity management and role-based access controls, authorization and authentication middleware, security, and related data and control planes. Role Description We are looking for a visionary and experienced Director of Platform Engineering to lead Veza's core platform organization - the foundation that powers everything Veza delivers.
