Job Description
Sr. Data Scientist
Homeward
Homeward is rearchitecting the delivery of health and care in partnership with communities everywhere, starting in rural America. Today, 60 million Americans living in rural communities are facing a crisis of access to care. In the U.S. healthcare system, rural Americans experience significantly poorer clinical outcomes. This trend is rapidly accelerating as rural hospitals close and physician shortages increase, exacerbating health disparities. In fact, Americans living in rural communities suffer a mortality rate 23 percent higher than those in urban communities, in part because of the lack of access to quality care. Our vision is care that enables everyone to achieve their best health. So, we’re creating a new healthcare delivery model that is purpose-built for rural America and directly addresses the issues that have historically limited access and quality. Homeward supports Medicare-eligible beneficiaries by partnering with health plans, providers, and communities to align incentives – taking full financial accountability for clinical outcomes and the total cost of care across rural counties. As a public benefit corporation and Certified B Corp™, Homeward’s mission and business model are aligned to address the healthcare, economic, and demographic challenges that make it challenging for rural Americans to stay healthy. Our Homeward Navigation™ platform uses advanced analytics to connect members to the right care and local resources that address social determinants of health and improve holistic health outcomes. Since many rural communities lack adequate clinical capacity, Homeward also employs care teams that supplement local practices and reach people who cannot otherwise access care. Homeward is co-founded by a leadership team that defined and delivered Livongo’s products, and backed most recently by a $50 million series B co-led by Arch Ventures and Human Capital, with participation from General Catalyst for a total of $70 million in funding. With this leadership team and funding, Homeward is committed to bringing high-quality healthcare to rural communities in need. Homeward Health Inc. seeks Senior Data Scientist in San Mateo, CA Job Duties: Deliver analytic and data science products – from business intelligence to analytics to predictive modeling – within the health care data domain (e.g., clinical outcomes, clinical quality, cost of care). Develop risk stratification models using EHR, claims, RA, actuarial experience, and a variety of other data sources to match our members with the appropriate care pathways. Conduct opportunity assessments for reducing total cost of care or improving code capture as we work in new geographies and with new clients and partners. Evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery for different population segments relative to clinical and cost outcomes. Collaborate with the Technology team to purpose-build a healthcare data infrastructure that supports high-impact analytics. Telecommuting is an option. Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Data Science, Bioinformatics, or closely related quantitative discipline, and two (2) years of experience in job offered or in any occupation in a related field. Special Skill Requirements: (1) Healthcare Analytics; (2) SQL; (3) Python; (4) Statistical analysis; (5) Data visualization; (6) large datasets; (7) Scikit-learn; (8) AWS; and (9) Databricks. • Utilize our existing data ingestion and delivery platforms to "teach" our models to understand the physical world, filling a critical expertise gap in the data center industry. • Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Analysis: Use telemetry tools to analyze sensor data across mechanical (chillers, pumps) and electrical (UPS, switchgear, power feeds) systems to identify "failure signatures" for our LLM-driven monitoring tool. • Refining the Logic Engine: Act as a primary user of our platforms, identifying gaps in our current mechanisms and collaborating with Engineering to influence future features and data quality. • Operational Insight Generation: Translate raw telemetry into the "SME-level" logic and directions used by our LLM tool to guide data center operators in real-time. • SME Development: Cultivate deep domain expertise in all facets of data center infrastructure. You will be expected to master the nuances of both mechanical and electrical dependencies to ensure our product reflects operational reality. • Customer Guidance: Move from shadowing peers to directly supporting customers, using our platform to provide clear, data-backed direction on complex problems. • Model Validation: Oversee pilot projects to test how our AI-driven SME tool interprets real-world stressors, ensuring the output is operationally realistic, accurate, and actionable. • Adaptability: Remain agile and proactive. As a member of a fast-moving team, you will encounter challenges and scopes not explicitly defined here; we expect you to lean in and solve them.
