Title: Project Manager, Special Projects – Transmission Line Design (Atlanta or Birmingham) Location: Atlanta Birmingham, United States Job Description: SCS Technical Shared Services, Engineering PLEASE NOTE This posting serves to fill multiple Project Manager positions on our Transmission Line Design East team to support GPC projects. WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL - This position will be based out of General Services HQ in Forest Park, GA (Metro Atlanta) or The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL. - Work schedule (in-office, field and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute (subject to adjustment). - This position will require a mixture of both field and office work. - Field work can include visits to various GPC project sites and may require overnight travel. - This position will require some travel (days and overnight - if you live in Atlanta, up to 25%; if you live in Birmingham, up to 50%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service. - Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance. POSITION SUMMARY The position is responsible for designing and managing high-priority, non-routine, or technically complex projects. The position responsibilities include a blend of performance management, engineering expertise, project management skills, and innovation to improve processes and execute unique Transmission projects in full compliance with all relevant corporate policies and all environmental, safety and regulatory requirements. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: - BS degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil), Engineering Technology, or relevant technical degree - or - - Significant experience in transmission line design is required - A Professional Engineering license is preferred Experience: - Experience working in or in support of transmission line design is required - Thorough knowledge of transmission line design practices including the use of PLS CADD is required - Experience in managing and scheduling large complex engineering projects is required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of transmission line materials, construction, maintenance, safety practices and operating procedures is highly desired. - A working knowledge of various computer systems (LDS, TLDS, STOMP, TEAMS, etc.) and software (Word, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, Enterprise Foundations and other accounting systems, Power Plant, Maximo, etc.) is required. - A working knowledge of the gated process. - Experience managing successful relationships and partnerships across business units - Effectively set performance expectations, provide meaningful feedback and recognize results. - Strategic thinking and analytical skills, as well as planning and problem-solving skills - Effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts - Flexible to changing business demands and priorities PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead design projects with atypical scope or complexity, such as projects involving new technologies, significant stakeholder involvement, or challenging environmental factors. Examples: C7 Conductor Projects, 500kV Design, 115kV/230kV Underground Transmission Projects (In collaboration with the standards team). - Mentor and train junior engineers to ensure technical growth and development. - Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., environmental, permitting, construction, procurement) and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. - Identify potential technical, environmental, or regulatory risks unique to special projects and develop strategies to mitigate them. - Track timelines and budgets, ensuring project completion within agreed-upon constraints. - Provide advanced engineering support to critical, high-visibility projects that demand specialized knowledge or unique problem-solving approaches. - Identify inefficiencies in existing design processes and lead initiatives to improve productivity, accuracy, and project timelines. - Evaluate, select, and implement new design tools, software, or methodologies that enhance the design team's capabilities. - Communicate project progress, technical details, and solutions to stakeholders, both internal and external. Act as subject matter experts when interacting with stakeholders like environmental specialists, civil engineers, or financial analysts. Participate in court proceedings and public information meetings. - Collect and analyze project performance data, including costs, time, and efficiency metrics, to refine future designs. - Provide detailed reports and documentation on special projects, including lessons learned, design challenges, and outcomes.
