Job Description
Mechanical Engineer
Quartermaster
• Design and release hardware from established requirements, including brackets, mounting interfaces, enclosures, and installation/routing solutions with attention to serviceability, sealing, vibration, and corrosion. • Collaborate with field operations to support Smartmast deployments and troubleshoot mechanical integration challenges. • Support cabling integration (Ethernet/PoE, coax/RF, power) by researching and sourcing components; define and validate routing/strain relief/termination standards and perform basic verification testing. • Triage and resolve integration issues across engineering, manufacturing, and field operations by gathering evidence, identifying root cause, implementing fixes, and closing the loop with design/BOM/documentation updates. • Support rapid prototyping R&D involving sensor integration and lightweight software design
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or similar (or equivalent hands-on experience with strong mechanical fundamentals).
- 3-6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, integration, manufacturing support, or field-facing hardware work.
- Proficiency with CAD (Onshape preferred) to create/release parts and assemblies and support design documentation.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and comfort working through real-world constraints.
- Working knowledge of cabling and interconnect systems (Ethernet/PoE, coax, power), including basic component selection and verification/testing.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; able to work effectively with a remote engineering team, field operations, and external vendors.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to gain hands-on experience with the Smartmast system and installation process.
- Comfortable with hands-on wiring and basic soldering/rework; ability to read wiring diagrams and use a multimeter. Familiarity with Linux-based systems and basic scripting (Python preferred) is a plus. ROS familiarity is a plus but not required.
- Experience writing and maintaining build or install documentation
Benefits
- Competitive salary
- Flexible work hours and remote work.
- Opportunities for professional development and continued education.
