School Summary North Carolina Connections Academy is a public remote charter academy serving students across the state. The school delivers a personalized learning experience through the Connections Academy model, emphasizing strong family partnerships, academic rigor, and equitable access to student support services. The virtual environment allows students to learn flexibly while receiving the guidance and support needed to succeed academically and personally. Position Summary Accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. Working from their home or from our Durham office, North Carolina licensed and certified school counselors will support and assist students and learning coaches with course selection, scheduling, and as the initial point of contact for student concerns that span multiple subject areas or non-academic issues. The School Counselor will become an expert of course and credit requirements, and work with the Manager of Counseling to establish a supportive and equitable school-wide counseling program. The School Counselor will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: - Advise students and caretakers related to academics, career planning, and graduation; - Maintain or develop a thorough understanding of all North Carolina specific course, credit, and graduation requirements; - Assist students and learning coaches with course selection processes, student placement, course and schedule changes, and developing student progression plans; - Review and maintain student transcripts and records and their accurate entry and maintenance in both the school’s and state’s LMS & records-keeping software; - Collaborate with administrative staff in obtaining student records from previous schools and forwarding student records when appropriate; - Work with stakeholders to identify school and community resources and build a network of support; - Collaborate with school staff to identify, support, & monitor “at risk” or “in crisis” students; - Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards. Stay abreast of all state regulations relating to incident reporting and documentation; - Implement, develop, and/or support special programs such as Advanced Placement support, dual enrollment, test preparation, freshmen & senior success, SEL, and college application support; - Help students to research and understand their post-secondary career and educational options; - Assist with student preparation of applications for college and jobs; - Educate students and parents about college admissions requirements and financial aid; - Collaborate and support yearly high school graduation ceremony; - Assist with administering and planning state testing and proctoring; - Communicate regularly with learning coaches, students, and team teachers through use of computer and telephone; - Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for students and families; - Other duties as assigned. Requirements: - Valid North Carolina Teaching License with certification in School Counseling. - Strong knowledge of North Carolina specific counseling procedures and requirements. - North Carolina residency preferred. - A valid driver’s license or state-issued identification card. - Availability to work full-time teacher shift from 8am - 4pm, Monday through Friday. - Strong interpersonal skills which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds. - Strong technology skills (especially in Google Suite). - Virtual experience preferred. - Demonstrated ability to create a positive, equitable, and student-centered environment. - Customer focused approach. - High degree of flexibility. - Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment. - Willingness and ability to travel for school-based meetings, training, graduation, field trips, and state testing events (may require overnight travel). - Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families. - Please note, if given a job offer, 2-step authentication is required to login to all systems. This position will provide coverage in short-term, surge and on demand situations resulting from the Military needs such as a post-deployment event or to cover an existing assignment for counselors who are absent. Primary responsibilities include the full breadth of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations. Virtual PFC support may only be authorized by OSD FINRED Program office. - Manages duty to warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol. - Communicates with leadership and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations to which the counselor is assigned. - Participates in regular in-services/training, quality improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned/appropriate. - All other duties as assigned.
