Job Description

Checkout Champ Jr. Developer

AJMedia

ABOUT AJ MEDIA AJ Media is a performance-driven ecommerce growth agency scaling consumer brands toward $100M. Our engineering team builds the checkout systems, upsell flows, and funnel logic that convert traffic into revenue. We don't build for aesthetics — we build for conversion rate, average order value, and repeatability. Every line of code has a business outcome attached to it. THE ROLE This is a junior role — but it is NOT a passive one. You will work directly alongside our Senior Checkout Champ Developer, get hands-on with real funnel builds from day one, and be expected to grow into independent ownership within 6–12 months. If you're looking for a role where you watch and wait — this isn't it. Our senior developer owns the full Checkout Champ and Shopify funnel stack. You will support and learn from them — implementing upsells, debugging checkout flows, assisting with Shopify customizations, and gradually taking on builds of your own. You bring foundational Checkout Champ and Shopify knowledge. We'll give you the environment to level up fast. HOW THIS ROLE DIFFERS FROM THE SENIOR POSITION The Senior Developer owns architecture and leads all complex builds. The Junior Developer executes components of those builds, owns smaller scoped tasks independently, troubleshoots under guidance, and builds toward full ownership. If you're applying to grow into the senior role — this is the path. What the Senior Developer owns: - End-to-end Checkout Champ funnel architecture and strategy - Custom subscription flows and complex rebill logic - Full API integrations between platforms from spec to deployment - Payment gateway configuration and advanced troubleshooting - Final QA sign-off and production deploys What you'll own and grow into: - Implementing upsell and downsell sequences built to the senior developer's spec - Shopify theme customizations and Liquid template edits - Tracking and pixel setup support (UTM structures, conversion events) - Checkout flow testing, bug documentation, and first-level troubleshooting - Building and maintaining internal documentation for funnel components - Taking on end-to-end ownership of smaller builds as your skill set develops WHAT YOU'LL DO Checkout Champ: - Assist in building and configuring Checkout Champ funnels under senior developer direction - Implement upsell and downsell offers, order bumps, and post-purchase sequences - Support payment gateway configuration and help troubleshoot checkout flow errors - Test checkout flows across devices, browsers, and payment methods — document all findings - Assist with subscription and rebill logic setup as you build familiarity with the platform Shopify: - Customize Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, and CSS - Implement front-end changes based on design briefs — product pages, landing pages, and checkout - Debug display or functional issues across storefronts for Gekko Gifts, Purvos, and Besyner - Support the senior developer on API integration work and third-party app configuration Tracking & Performance Support: - Assist with pixel and tracking setup — Meta, Google, and native platform events - Help identify and document tracking discrepancies — work with the team to resolve - Understand the relationship between checkout flow changes and conversion metrics Learning & Documentation: - Document builds, component logic, and processes as you execute them - Proactively review Checkout Champ and Shopify release notes and flag relevant changes - Ask good questions — and translate what you learn into reusable references for the team

Job Requirements

  • WHO YOU ARE
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience with Checkout Champ — you've built or assisted with at least one live funnel
  • Solid Shopify fundamentals — comfortable with Liquid, theme customization, and Shopify admin
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and basic front-end development (HTML, CSS)
  • You understand what a conversion funnel is — and why every step matters
  • Detail-oriented: you test your own work before marking it done, and you document what you build
  • You communicate clearly in writing — async-first team, remote environment, clarity is non-negotiable
  • Hungry to learn: you read documentation, watch build videos, and test things on your own time
  • Not precious about feedback — you want to know what's wrong so you can fix it
  • PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENT
  • Portfolio is mandatory. Applications without Checkout Champ or Shopify project examples will not be reviewed. Junior does not mean no evidence — it means less volume. Show us what you've built, even if it's one solid funnel.
  • We're looking for:
  • At least one Checkout Champ funnel you worked on — screenshot, Loom walkthrough, or live link
  • At least one Shopify project — theme customization, a landing page, or a checkout modification
  • If you've built less: show us what you know. A short video walkthrough of your strongest project tells us more than a CV.
  • STRONG PLUS
  • Experience with post-purchase upsell apps (ReConvert, Zipify, or similar)
  • Familiarity with subscription platforms (Recharge, Bold Subscriptions, or Checkout Champ rebill flows)
  • Exposure to media buying workflows — you understand what a media buyer cares about from the funnel
  • Basic understanding of conversion rate optimization principles
  • Experience with any API integration work, even simple webhook or Zapier flows
  • HIRING PROCESS
  • Submit portfolio (required — no exceptions)
  • Short take-home technical test (Checkout Champ + Shopify task — 2–3 hours)
  • Final interview with Senior Developer and team lead
  • This is a long-term opportunity. We are building a conversion engineering team that will scale with the business. The right junior developer will have a clear path to Senior Developer within 12–18 months based on output quality and ownership growth.

Benefits

  • WHY JOIN US
  • Work directly under a senior developer with deep Checkout Champ expertise — one of the best learning environments available for this stack
  • See your code go live on real, high-traffic ecommerce brands — not staging environments
  • Performance bonus tied to funnel output quality and conversion improvements
  • Fast growth path to Senior Developer for candidates who execute and take initiative
  • Remote-first, results-focused team — you are measured on what you ship, not your hours
  • Paid Leaves, HMO, allowances
  • Work across three growing consumer brands with more launches planned
