Job Description

Head of Engineering

saas.group

• Establish deep working relationships with the engineering team and tech leads to foster our culture of psychological safety and high performance. • Support the team in fostering ownership for outcomes. Guide the transition from functional (FE/BE) to end-to-end ownership. • Partner with the team to identify friction and bottlenecks to implement a value-driven delivery flow with improved predictability and velocity. • Start executing on a roadmap that balances strategic transformation of our engineering (e.g. tackling tech debt, agent readiness, upskilling) with product innovation goals. • Guide the evolution of collaboration model from functional roles toward cross-functional efficiency. Bridge gaps between Product and Engineering, reduce dependencies and empower the team to deliver end-to-end value. • Own and co-create the technical vision & roadmap with your Tech Leads, balancing "tech debt" reduction with feature delivery. • Spearhead the adoption of AI-native development practice, tooling, and automation to increase team leverage and engineering efficiency. • Act as a high-level sparring partner to the CEO and Product leadership. Navigate trade-offs between technical sustainability and delivery speed. • Own the technical direction for data-heavy platform, security, data and privacy (Audits, GDPR), performance, and seamless migrations while collaborating with the saas.group Central Platform team. • Mentor and empower an international engineering team to embrace full ownership and foster confidence in autonomous decision-making.

Job Requirements

  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-scale production environment, with a focus on efficient team structures and operational excellence.
  • You possess high technical credibility across modern stacks (ideally PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, and cloud infrastructure) and feel at home discussing architecture with senior engineers.
  • You prioritize engineering efforts based on customer value and business impact rather than technical elegance for its own sake.
  • You are skilled at building alignment during transitions, leading teams through change and resistance to a new rhythm and velocity.
  • You measure your success by what your team (incl. you) ships, not only by what you personally build.
  • A forward-thinking approach to using LLMs and AI agents as a core lever for both product features and internal productivity.
  • Domain understanding of SEO-related web technologies (websites, crawling, indexing, content analysis) is a strong plus.
  • Fluent English is a must; German is a strong advantage given the brand’s roots.

Benefits

  • Ultimate Flexibility: Fully remote role with optional Nuremberg office; preferred time zone ±2 hours CET.
  • High Trust & Autonomy: We hire experts and get out of their way. You’ll have the freedom to solve problems your way with minimal bureaucracy.
  • The saas.group Network: Direct access to a global community of SaaS founders, engineering leaders, and experts to exchange knowledge and scale your own career.
  • Impact: A seat at the leadership table of a brand with thousands of users where your decisions move the needle every day.
