Protection Engineer
ENTRUST Solutions Group
• Lead the analysis, documentation, and implementation of protection strategies for generation and transmission systems. • Review and analyze protective relay settings to ensure proper coordination margins in accordance with NERC PRC standards and recommend setting changes as needed. • Document relay coordination in compliance reports. • Model primary and secondary systems using industry-leading tools such as ASPEN, PSS®E, and PSLF. • Perform system disturbance analysis to recommend protection system improvements. • Utilize advanced microprocessor-based digital transient recorders and sequence-of-event recorders to support detailed system performance analysis. • Conduct special short-circuit studies and perform complex calculations to establish relay settings. • Interact with manufacturers, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations such as IEEE and NPCC to remain current on evolving protection and control requirements.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience in protection and control engineering for generation and/or transmission systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in protective relay and control system engineering, relay settings calculations, relay logic development, and analysis of relay operations for transmission and distribution substations.
- Strong knowledge of relay communications theory, testing practices, and the maintenance of relay communications network infrastructure.
- Experience with advanced system modeling and short-circuit studies using ASPEN, PSS®E, PSLF, or similar tools.
- Hands-on experience with digital fault recorders and sequence-of-event recording systems.
- Active engagement with industry standards and organizations related to protection and control.

• Performing daily data center operations-based activities at one of Applogic Networks’ key accounts. • Monitor, identify, and lead to resolution potential issues on a high availability production environment. • Collaborate with Customer Network Operations for deployment, maintenance, administration, and operational tasks. • Diagnose Applogic Networks equipment failures and recommend configuration changes. • Initiative-taking health monitoring of software/hardware issues, daily monitoring of system health, KPIs, logs, and alarms with a sense of urgency when issues arise. • Analyze and troubleshoot critical Applications traffic and detect problems using essential software tools. • Lead the analysis/discussion with other departments to solve and prevent issues.

• Lead the technical delivery of implementations and major client initiatives: discovery, solution design, execution plan, and delivery. • Own end-to-end data modeling strategy (dimensional models, semantic consistency, performance, and extensibility). • Enforce engineering standards in client codebases: PR discipline, test strategy, documentation, release management, and automation. • Diagnose and resolve complex data quality issues; quantify downstream impact and drive remediation plans with clients and internal teams. • Serve as a senior client-facing technical consultant: run technical workshops, present findings, propose options/tradeoffs, and influence stakeholder decisions. • Build reusable accelerators (templates, reference models, validation suites, playbooks) that improve delivery speed and consistency across clients. • Mentor and upskill Client Engineers (including Level 1 and Level 2) through pairing, reviews, and coaching. • Partner cross-functionally (Product, Platform Engineering, Client Success, Security/Compliance) to improve platform capabilities and delivery practices. • Champion responsible for AI usage in engineering workflows: define guardrails, review standards, and quality checks for AI-assisted code and analysis.
