Job Description

Summer Legal Intern

Alliance for Justice

• Attend BA trainings to learn nonprofit law and public presentation skills. • Support trainers as needed (e.g. answer substantive questions, tech and logistic support, etc.). • Research, draft, and respond to technical assistance questions under the supervision of BA attorneys. • Monitor federal, state, and local legislation that affects nonprofit advocacy or issues that impact the progressive nonprofit sector. • Track developments in nonprofit advocacy and write blog posts or articles on the topic. • Attend training preparation calls, partnership meetings, and/or community convenings. • Conduct research and analysis related to a broad array of public interest law and/or progressive issues. • Research and conduct outreach to new audiences or nonprofits primarily working in AFJ’s priority issue areas. • Work with AFJ’s Communications and Development teams to draft press releases, blog posts, web and social media content. • Perform other duties as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Current law student
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and clearly explain legal concepts plainly
  • An interest in public policy and/or working with nonprofit organizations
  • An interest in nonprofit advocacy law (lobbying, campaign finance, etc.)
  • A demonstrated commitment to the public interest
  • Applicant must be able to work 40 hours per week
