The Master Patient Index Specialist ensures the accuracy and integrity of the MPI. This includes, but is not limited to, patient identifier merges, unmerges, contact moves and chart correction. Serves as the primary point of contact for medical record number questions and will work closely with CarePATH, registration and scheduling at all Ensemble Health client facilities . Striving for Excellence: Execute at a high level by demonstrating our “Best in KLAS” Ensemble Difference Principles and consistently delivering outstanding results. - Manages and maintains the integrity of the computerized Master Patient Index (MPI) in support of compliance requirements, licensing/regulatory standards and patient care. - Performs master patient index (MPI) data analysis for identifying duplicate/multiple patient files conducted via reports from the electronic medical record. - Identifies duplicate/multiple patient files within the MPI and merges to consolidate or link in the MPI. - Investigates potential contact moves for accuracy. If needed correct errors in system from one patient to another for errors, registration errors, identity theft, and all unmerges, from various sources including but acute care facilities to determine the validity of the contact move request. - Merges and unmerges patient records from different facilities/departments, and resolves data issues and errors - Prints, preps, scans and indexes patient visit lists to track changes to a patient’s visit list. Updates demographic information. Use putty and note mover as needed for correcting notes. Reviews EOBs within a two-week turnaround. - Documents accurate collection activity in the collection tracking notes. - Evaluates status of accounts and prioritizes collection action (letters, phone calls, staff assistance). - Calls on outstanding balances due from carriers in a timely manner. - Telephone, interview, and counsel patients on outstanding self-pay balances. - Responds to incoming telephone or mail inquiries in a prompt, timely manner. - Completes write-off adjustment forms for accounts needing necessary adjustments and turns in to supervisor with appropriate documentation attached. - Maintains collection logs for distribution to other teams for use in identifying areas needing attention/correction. - Advises supervisor of any unusual collection accounts as they become delinquent or are in question. - Prepares daily user reports for supervisor review and filing along with appropriate notes/documentation. - Works with other departments to gather necessary information for proper account work/collection activity. - Maintains a complete understanding of HCPCS/ICD/CPT oncology coding and specific carrier requirements/knowledge. - Additional responsibilities may be assigned to help drive our mission of improving the lives of everyone living with cancer.
