Job Description

Associate General Counsel, Healthcare

OpenLoop Health

About OpenLoop OpenLoop was co-founded by CEO, Dr. Jon Lensing, and COO, Christian Williams, with the vision to bring care anywhere. Our telehealth support solutions are thoughtfully designed to streamline and simplify go-to-market care delivery for companies offering meaningful virtual support to patients across an expansive array of specialties, in all 50 states. About the Role OpenLoop’s mission is to bring care anywhere by powering telehealth solutions at scale. The Legal team ensures our rapid growth is built on a foundation of compliance and rigorous defense, allowing our clinicians to focus on patient outcomes. As the Associate General Counsel, you will be the strategic architect of our healthcare, pharmacy, and regulatory arm. You aren't here to just identify risks; you will own the entire regulatory landscape for our business, serving as a subject matter expert who translates complex healthcare laws into actionable business strategies. You will lead a growing function, navigating the evolving intersection of technology and medicine to ensure OpenLoop remains a leader in compliant, nationwide care delivery. What You'll Do - Own the Regulatory Roadmap: Serve as the primary legal authority for all healthcare, pharmacy, and digital health regulatory matters. You will proactively navigate fraud and abuse laws, corporate practice of medicine challenges, and multi-state pharmacy regulations. - Architect Healthcare Compliance: Support the development and oversight of OpenLoop’s healthcare compliance program. - Strategic Regulatory Engagement: You will lead the development of outreach strategies, management of regulatory filings, and responses to government inquiries. - Operationalize Legal Advice: Move beyond "no" to find "how." You will develop legal tools and SOPs that allow our product and engineering teams to build compliant telehealth features at speed, balancing legal risk with aggressive business growth. - Other duties as assigned. Who You Are - A Seasoned Leader: You have a "credible leadership presence" and the ability to manage a team of attorneys with logic, clarity, and authority. - A Telehealth Expert: You possess a deep, native understanding of the digital health landscape and aren't intimidated by regulations that evolve faster than the laws themselves. - Strategically Minded: You can operate at 30,000 feet to identify emerging legal trends while remaining tactical enough to resolve immediate operational hurdles. - A Natural Talent Assessor: You know what "great" looks like in a healthcare attorney and have a track record of building high-performing, collaborative teams. Required Qualifications - J.D. & active membership in at least one US state bar. - 8-12+ years as a practicing attorney with expertise in the healthcare industry. - Telehealth Subject Matter Expertise: Proven experience navigating the specific regulatory hurdles of digital health, including multi-state provider licensing and virtual prescribing. - Management Track Record: Experience directly managing attorneys or legal consultants, with a demonstrated ability to delegate and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. - Regulatory Fluency: In-depth knowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws, FDA requirements (where applicable), and international health regulations. Preferred Qualifications - Pharmacy Law Depth: Specific experience with pharmacy compliance, PBM contracting, or digital pharmacy operations. - Risk-Based Strategist: Experience using a risk-based approach to develop creative solutions for novel issues in the "consumer electronics" or "tech-enabled health" space. - Growth Stage Experience: Familiarity with the "rapid-growth" environment of a series-stage startup, where shifting priorities are the norm. Our Benefits In addition, for salaried positions you would also be eligible for: - Medical, Dental, and Vision plans - Flexible Spending/Health Savings Accounts - Flexible PTO - 401(k) + Company Match - Life Insurance, Pet insurance, and more Our Company We have a relatively flat organizational structure here at OpenLoop. Everyone is encouraged to bring ideas to the table and make things happen. This fits in well with our core values of Autonomy, Competence and Belonging, as we want everyone to feel empowered and supported to do their best work. Sound like a good fit? We’d love to meet you.
