Role Description Join the Montgomery County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program team of committed professionals who aim to protect and improve the quality of care and quality of life for residents of long-term care facilities through advocacy for and on behalf of residents and through the promotion of community involvement in long-term care facilities. - Maintain regular visits to residents living in long-term care settings, including identifying, investigating, documenting, and resolving complaints. - Provide information and consultation on community resources to residents, families, and providers of long-term care services. - Provide advocacy information promoting residents’ rights in navigating the long-term care system. - Coordinate responses to identified emergencies, including county-related disaster preparedness duties for weather-related events. - Provide supervision and technical assistance to develop skills of pro-bono ombudsmen. - Provide on-site ombudsman services when a pro-bono advocate is unavailable. - Organize, develop, and support resident and family councils within licensed long-term care and assisted living facilities. - Research and provide examples of best practices in person-centered care. - Develop creative legislative and non-legislative strategies to resolve complex issues under the guidance of the State Ombudsman. - Analyze trends/patterns in the program area and recommend modifications in program practices. - Perform other job-related duties as assigned. The selected candidate will be required to complete and submit a Financial Disclosure Statement. This position requires the ability to work evening and/or weekend hours when needed. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office. Qualifications - Considerable (3 years) of professional experience serving frail seniors, disabled individuals, and/or their families through advocacy network programs. - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree. - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Requirements - Designated by the MDoA Office of the State Long Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman as a certified LTC Ombudsman. - Experience serving frail seniors, disabled individuals, and their families through advocacy network programs. - Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations affecting residents living in licensed long-term care facilities. - Experience in mentoring, skills development in volunteer recruitment and retention. - Bilingual skills are desirable. Role Description The Koch Internship Program (KIP) is a paid, 12-week experiential learning program run by Stand Together Fellowships that offers meaningful work experience at non-profits all over the United States tackling some of our nation's most pressing challenges. Eligible candidates will be geographically located within the U.S. and authorized to work in the U.S. through the duration of the program. Throughout your internship, you will gain meaningful professional experience at a partner organization and participate in professional development built around a 2-day, in-person summit hosted by Stand Together Fellowships at Stand Together's Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, supported by virtual programming that takes place every other Thursday between 1-4:00 pm ET. Interns will receive either a $7,500 or $5,500 stipend from Stand Together Fellowships depending on whether they are working full-time (32 hours/week) or part-time (24 hours/week) with the partner organization. The programming provided by Stand Together Fellowships focuses on three objectives: - Understanding the foundational principles of a free society such as individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and the rule of law; - Learning the Stand Together community's vision for change and how a principled approach to problem solving can help address society's biggest challenges; - Presenting opportunities and pathways to build a career that advances liberty and free society. In this role, you will: - Draft marketing copy and social media posts; - Contribute to event execution; - Assist staff with various facets of their work; - Engage in one-on-one networking opportunities with media personalities and liberty movement leaders. This is a full-time, remote role, with the ability to work in Young Voices' office if located in Washington, DC, on a hybrid work schedule. The intern shall report to the Dissident Project’s Program Manager.
