Manager – External Reporting and Technical Accounting

• Oversee and manage the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and compliance reports, including federal and state reporting, bank requirements, and other business reporting. • Develop structured and automated accounting and business processes for external and compliance reporting, including the necessary control and approval framework. • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors on financial reporting and technical accounting matters, managing and meeting audit timelines and information requests for quarterly reviews and the annual audit. • Independently research, analyze, and interpret complex U.S. GAAP accounting standards for existing operations and new business initiatives. • Prepare well-documented, clear, and comprehensive technical accounting memos to justify the company’s positions on complex topics, such as revenue recognition on new contracts and service offerings, business combinations, stock-based compensation, and lease accounting. • Lead the development, maintenance, and dissemination of corporate accounting policies and procedures across all finance functions to ensure consistent and compliant accounting treatment. • Lead the implementation of newly issued accounting standards, including assessing the impact, coordinating the necessary process and system changes, and managing internal communications. • Work closely with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to ensure consistency between external financial results and internal management reporting, forecasts, and variance analysis. • Prepare specialized reporting and presentations for the Executive Leadership Team, Program Management, and organizational leaders, explaining complex financial results and technical accounting impacts. • Ensure the maintenance and compliance of all internal controls over financial reporting relevant to the external reporting and technical accounting processes. • Streamline and improve existing reporting and planning processes so all leaders can easily access the financial information they need to perform their compliance functions, leveraging financial systems and business intelligence tools for efficiency and accuracy.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA license is required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience, with at least 3 years spent in Big 4 Public Accounting or large government contracting.
- Deep and current technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Demonstrated experience researching complex technical accounting issues and writing position memos.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to articulate complex financial issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong computer skills and an ability to leverage technology in a contract administration context.

Role Description The Senior Manager of Accounting is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing key aspects of the organization’s accounting operations. Reporting into the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), this role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and supports continual process improvements, including leveraging AI and automation to eliminate manual work and M&A diligence. The candidate will be a thought partner to the CAO, a lead on the Accounting and Finance team, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive financial integrity. Responsibilities - Revenue Management: Oversee revenue recognition processes and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, such as ASC 606. Includes cross-functional collaboration and ownership of dependent processes, such as fee share and rebates. - Payroll, Bonus, and Commissions: Manage recording of payroll, bonus calculations, and commission accruals with accuracy and timeliness. - Capitalized Software Accounting: Supervise capitalization of software development costs and related accounting entries. - General Accounting: Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close activities; ensure accuracy of financial statements. - Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors, prepare documentation, and resolve audit queries promptly. - Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate manual processes; implement enhancements using modern tools (AI, workflow automation, improved system integrations) to drive efficiency, scalability, and accuracy. - People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for Trail Ridge Power and its related entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and intercompany eliminations • Manage entity-level and consolidated financial statements, including lender-required consolidations • Own ERP system administration and optimization, including configuration, workflows, reporting, and internal controls (Sage Intacct) • Serve as the accounting lead for ERP migration or reimplementation initiatives • Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely investigation and resolution of discrepancies • Act as an accounting liaison for external auditors, lenders, and other third-party stakeholders • Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support a scaling organization • Collaborate with FP&A, Asset Management, and senior leadership on financial reporting, variance analysis, and ad hoc requests • Provide oversight, guidance, and review of work prepared by GL and Staff Accountants • Support special projects and complete other duties as assigned
