Location: Eastern half of the United States We are looking for a Senior Field Engineer to join our Innovation Group within the Professional Services organization at Kong. The Innovation Group is responsible for developing automated migration solutions using AI Coding Agents for our consultants to use during their consulting engagements. As a Senior Field Engineer in this group, you will be responsible for enhancing our Migration Automation Framework using state-of-the-art AI Coding Agents to build robust, scalable and reliable migration solutions. The role will blend software engineering, AI/LLM integration and API gateway expertise with strong customer-facing communication skills. In this role, you will interface and collaborate with a variety of peers and partners as well as everyone in the customer environment from Developers to Executives, representing Kong culture and values every day. Apart from driving the successful delivery of customer-facing migration solutions, you will also be working and collaborating closely with Kong’s different cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Customer Success, CRE, and others). What we are looking for: - 6+ years of relevant software development experience - Hands-on implementation experience with API gateway and/or API integrations in customer environments - Practical working knowledge of API’s, containers and micro-services - Proficient in Linux environments including Cloud and Development tooling - Experience with building and deploying software solutions using AI Coding Agents - Experience with application development and multiple programming languages required - Experience with major cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, and Azure preferred - Experience with Google Apigee or IBM API Connect & Data Power a plus - Passion and determination for technology and innovation - Strong organizational and change management skills with an ability to manage competing customer demands - Proven team player and solution builder who loves to work collaboratively in a fast-growing dynamic environment - Ability to occasionally travel to customers and Kong locations as needed - BS in Computer Science / B.A. or equivalent technical development experience What you will be doing: - Helping customer(s) succeed with their automated legacy API gateway migrations. You will be responsible for designing & building solutions, addressing technical challenges and providing hands-on technical implementation assistance to our PS consultants and customer technical teams. - Engaging with customers on migration projects, guiding them through the installation and implementation of Kong solutions in their environment. - Leading customer discussions, driving outcome-based professional services and providing technical thought leadership on field solutions we develop and deploy. - Collaborating internally with our Product Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales teams to ensure our customers are getting the most value out of their Kong solutions. - Developing internal solutions & tools for the wider field organization to help us push our technical boundaries and improve our ability to deliver value to our subscribers. - Writing or editing technical documentation and knowledge base articles for the solutions you develop.
