About the role Starburst's streamlined, easy-to-use, delightful user interfaces and workflows are key value drivers. As an engineering intern on Starburst Galaxy or Enterprise, you’ll work alongside full-time engineers and share ownership of building the user experience. You’ll work closely with UX, and product management to design and build the components to implement new features our customers will love. We will strive to align these components with your chosen field of study. Daily tasks include developing and supporting new and existing product features, working with fellow engineers worldwide, learning new technologies, designing complex systems, and collaborating with various stakeholders across the organization. This paid internship will span 10 weeks in Summer 2026 from June 1st, - August 28th. As part of our internship program, certain events may require in-person attendance at our Boston Headquarters. As a Software Engineering Intern at Starburst you will: - Design and develop components for Starburst products, including a comprehensive, fully-featured web-based user interface - Participate in projects from concept to completion - Continuously improve our engineering processes, tests, and systems that allow us to scale the code base and productivity of the team - Collaborate with teams globally and operate in a fast-paced environment - Provide exceptional customer support for both internal and external customers Some of the things we look for: - Passion for Software Engineering (backend systems preferred) - Rising Senior or recent graduate - Experience developing software in Java - Prior experience building SaaS (especially for our SaaS product, Galaxy) - Demonstration of ownership, grit, and bias for action - core values at Starburst - Experience contributing to open-source software is a plus Where could this role be based? - Boston, MA with the flexibility to be hybrid.
