Systems Engineer43 days ago

Role Description As Principal Finance Systems at Slate, you will design, build, and run the SAP Finance and Controlling platform that closes Slate’s books, evidence Slate’s controls, and answers Slate’s financial questions in real time. You will own the FICO core end to end, from Record-to-Report and Acquire-to-Retire through product costing, inventory accounting, and the intercompany and consolidations that hold them together. You will partner with the full CFO team, from corporate and plant controllers through treasury, tax, and FP&A, to make Slate’s finance platform a world-class capability that scales from launch through global OEM operations. You will be hands-on with the platform, the configuration, and the integrations, and you will be the senior advisor to Slate’s CFO organization on how SAP can solve the next finance problem before it becomes one. You will define the global template, the master data model, the close calendar, and the reporting structure that Slate’s finance organization will run on, and you will continue to shape them as Slate adds entities, plants, and complexity. The Principal Finance Systems reports directly to the Head of ERP Center of Excellence. What You Get to Do - Own the FICO Core: Lead the design, configuration, and ongoing operation of SAP Finance and Controlling across every sub-module that matters, including GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Banking, Treasury, Costing, and Controlling. - Deliver Record-to-Report: Own the financial close cycle end to end, including intercompany processing, group reporting, consolidations, statutory and management reporting, and the close-calendar discipline that turns finance into a predictable monthly rhythm. - Master Manufacturing Finance: Design and run the product costing, inventory accounting, and material ledger processes that turn factory activity into financial truth, partnering with plant controllers to make the standard cost model and variance analysis credible. - Lead Acquire-to-Retire: Own the fixed asset lifecycle in SAP, from capitalization and depreciation through retirement and impairment, supporting the capital investments Slate is making as it builds out manufacturing. - Architect Finance Integrations: Design the integrations that feed FICO and consume from it, including banking, tax (OneSource or equivalent), reconciliation (Blackline or equivalent), procurement (Coupa), and the planning and analytics layer. - Partner with the CFO Team: Be the senior SAP partner to corporate and plant controllers, treasury, tax, FP&A, and external audit, translating business priorities into platform capability and explaining platform constraints in language finance trusts. - Build for Scale and Compliance: Design for multi-entity and multi-currency operations from the start, with SOX and US GAAP requirements built into the platform, not bolted on later. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field is required. - MBA or equivalent advanced degree in Finance is preferred. Requirements - 15+ years of SAP Finance and Controlling functional and technical leadership, specifically within manufacturing, automotive, or complex hardware environments. - Lead architect or lead functional consultant on at least one greenfield SAP S/4HANA Finance implementation and multiple major upgrades. - Direct ownership of monthly and annual close cycles, intercompany processing, group reporting (SAP Group Reporting or equivalent), and consolidations in a multi-entity environment. - Hands-on configuration and operation of product costing, inventory accounting (including the material ledger), and standard cost model design in a manufacturing setting. - Deep experience configuring SAP Asset Accounting, banking integrations, electronic bank statement processing, and treasury workflows. - Working knowledge of the platforms that surround SAP FICO, including Blackline, OneSource (or equivalent tax), Coupa, and SAP Analytics Cloud or Datasphere. - You see the company as a series of interconnected loops and understand how a delay in procurement ripples through the MES and eventually hits the financial ledger. - You know that “perfect is the enemy of shipped” and can stand up a minimum viable finance platform today while architecting for a multi-entity close at OEM scale tomorrow. - You are skilled at managing stakeholders with competing priorities, including the productive tension between finance teams that want certainty and platform teams that need flexibility. - You are bilingual between finance leaders and SAP teams, equally credible explaining a costing variance to a plant controller and a substitution rule to a developer. Physical Requirements - Must have the ability to travel (up to 25%). - Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. - Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods. Salary Range The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors. Base Pay Range (Annual): $171,191.48 - $285,319.13 USD Additional Compensation and Benefits: Slate offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in the equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
