• Perform power system studies including but not limited to: Protective device coordination, Short-circuit analysis, Arc flash analysis, Load flow studies, Ampacity calculations, Grounding studies, Harmonic analysis, Power quality assessments • Design collection systems, including cable routing and cable sizing • Perform tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects • Participate in the creation of equipment specifications for and gain knowledge of renewable energy systems including PV solar modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, cable management systems, and balance-of-system (BOS) • Create written reports and make presentations describing studies performed, solutions developed, and value obtained • Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes • Work under the direction of more senior staff
• Create sheet sets and perform design work for multiple engineering disciplines supporting renewable energy and substation projects. • Acquire and apply knowledge of renewable energy system layouts and components such as modules, racking, inverters, and Balance of Systems (BOS). • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes. • Manage time efficiently across multiple projects. • Coordinate with clients and project managers on their expectations. • Work under the guidance of more senior staff. • Work on or lead small projects or portions of larger projects in preparation of drawings and engineering documentation. • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments. • Collaboratively use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments. • Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines. • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

• Lead the protection and controls engineering scope for complex renewable energy and substation projects. • Independently develop and review complex electrical engineering plans, details, and calculations. • Oversee preparation and quality review of electrical design drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, panel elevations, AC/DC schematics, AC/DC cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and related documentation. • Lead power system modeling and relay coordination studies using ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, or equivalent tools, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements. • Develop and review protection and control design basis documentation, perform advanced relay setting calculations, and generate configuration files using SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista, or equivalent vendor tools. • Oversee development of SCADA system configurations and communication interface settings for substation equipment, including IEC 61850-based systems. • Serve as technical authority during field activities, commissioning, energization, and troubleshooting. • Develop and improve protection scheme templates, standards, and workflows to increase efficiency and technical consistency across portfolios. • Provide technical guidance on unconventional or complex engineering challenges and adapt standard approaches where necessary. • Represent the protection and controls discipline in project meetings with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. • Support technical client interactions across multiple projects and portfolios. • Coordinate with civil, structural, and power systems engineers to ensure integrated design delivery. • Collaborate with Project Managers to manage risks, address scope changes, and resolve technical issues proactively. • Assign tasks to and direct discipline team members to complete assignments. • Provide mentorship and technical development to other staff members. • Review work for technical accuracy and professional soundness.
Substation Design Engineer III – Renewable Energy
