Power Systems Engineer I
Revamp Engineering, Inc.
• Perform power system studies including but not limited to: Protective device coordination, Short-circuit analysis, Arc flash analysis, Load flow studies, Ampacity calculations, Grounding studies, Harmonic analysis, Power quality assessments • Design collection systems, including cable routing and cable sizing • Perform tasks on small projects or portions of larger projects • Participate in the creation of equipment specifications for and gain knowledge of renewable energy systems including PV solar modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, cable management systems, and balance-of-system (BOS) • Create written reports and make presentations describing studies performed, solutions developed, and value obtained • Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes • Work under the direction of more senior staff
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
- 0–2 years of relevant experience, including academic projects, internships, co-ops, research, or entry-level engineering experience
- Foundational understanding of power systems concepts, such as load flow, short circuit, protection, grounding, or renewable energy systems
- Strong interest in power systems engineering, renewable energy, and technical problem-solving
- Professional demeanor with a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Demonstrated passion for learning, collaboration, and contributing to high-quality engineering work
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to be both creative and analytical
- Detail-oriented and accurate
- Efficient time management – handle multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines

Role Description As an Electrical Controls Engineer at Interstates, you’ll play a key role in developing and executing detailed, constructable control system designs for a diverse array of projects. • Participate in the design and development of electrical construction documents, including layouts, details, and specifications. • Engineer complete building systems—lighting, power distribution, and specialty electrical systems—across a variety of project types. • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions. • Engage with clients, support proposal development, and contribute to business growth. • Perform advanced analysis, calculations, and design evaluations for electrical power and lighting systems. • Use Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD to produce construction drawings and design electrical systems, including device layouts, circuiting, lighting, and panel schedules. • Review project requirements and coordinate with other disciplines to refine design strategies and respond to evolving project conditions. • Participate in client meetings, assess project needs, present design concepts, and adjust plans to meet client expectations. • Communicate technical and program information clearly to team members, management, and clients. • Define scope of work, conduct site inspections, and ensure quality and compliance throughout the design process. • Coordinate or perform field work to gather data and verify existing conditions. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government, military, and industry standards. • Conduct internal technical reviews and quality control checks on project deliverables. • Maintain strong communication with internal teams and external stakeholders. • Edit and review technical specifications and contribute written narratives for project documentation. • Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and perform site visits during construction. • Prepare design fee estimates for proposals and RFPs.
• Engage with renewable energy developers, investors, and stakeholders in Japan to understand grid connection challenges and identify opportunities • Lead or actively contribute to early-stage client discussions, including technical positioning of AFRY services • Support and contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and technical discussions • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including developers, utilities, and industry players, in collaboration with the existing AFRY Japanese team from other departments. • Perform simplified power system assessments, including grid connection feasibility, system constraints and congestion (load flow analysis), curtailment analysis • Apply engineering judgement to assess grid risks and opportunities, including in situations with limited data availability • Support early-stage project assessments where detailed simulations are not yet required • Contribute to delivery of grid connection and transmission studies for renewable and storage projects • Support preparation of clear and structured technical reports adapted to client expectations • Explain technical findings to clients, including non-specialist stakeholders • Coordinate with AFRY international T&D team for detailed modelling and simulation activities • Translate Japanese grid practices, requirements, and constraints into clear technical inputs • Review and interpret study results (load flow, short-circuit, stability), ensuring alignment with Japanese context • Support development of AFRY’s service offering in Japan (e.g. grid curtailment studies, interconnection advisory) • Contribute to market intelligence and identification of emerging opportunities
