Job Description
Solutions Architect
phData
Role Description We are looking for a Solutions Architect – Managed Services to join our Elastic Platform Operations (EPO) team. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of cloud-native data platforms on Snowflake, AWS, and Azure for our managed services clients, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned to strategic business goals. You will collaborate closely with clients, internal engineering and support teams, and practice leadership to deliver high-quality solutions, maximize platform ROI, and advance phData’s delivery excellence. Key Responsibilities - Client Delivery: - Own and drive end-to-end solution architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale, cloud-native data platform projects on Snowflake, AWS, and Azure for managed services customers. - Translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable platform solutions, including migrations from legacy platforms (e.g., Redshift, Azure Data Warehouse), integration of data lakes and data warehouses, and performance optimization of enterprise data workloads. - Ensure engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and with measurable business value by proactively optimizing platform performance, reliability, and costs through automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement. - Collaboration & Leadership: - Collaborate with cross-functional partners across sales, engineering, and support, as well as client stakeholders including executives, to align platform strategies and roadmaps with business goals and ensure high customer satisfaction. - Provide hands-on technical leadership to delivery teams during migrations, integrations, incident response, and performance tuning, guiding engineers through complex implementation challenges. - Ensure high quality in deliverables through robust architecture standards, documentation, testing, and governance, including the implementation of strong security and data governance practices on client platforms. - Partner with practice and account leaders to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously, preventing resource overruns, maximizing platform ROI, and reinforcing phData’s Operational Maturity Framework with clients. - Practice & Firm Contribution: - Contribute to the evolution of phData’s Elastic Platform Operations offerings by promoting the Operational Maturity Framework, codifying best practices, and feeding lessons learned back into accelerators, templates, and playbooks. - Mentor and develop junior engineers, sharing best practices in cloud-native architecture, operations, and consulting to foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence. - Support pre-sales and scoping efforts as needed by partnering with sales and practice leadership to shape viable managed services solutions that balance technical feasibility, risk, and client value. Qualifications - 8+ years of hands-on experience architecting, designing, implementing, and managing cloud-native data platforms and solutions, ideally in a consulting or managed services environment. - Deep expertise with modern enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse, including strong skills in performance tuning and troubleshooting. - Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure, and the Snowflake ecosystem, including services such as S3, ADLS, Kinesis, Azure Data Factory, dbt, and Kafka. - Proven ability to build and operate scalable, secure data platforms aligned to strategic business goals, with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL and SQL-based workloads, including writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries. - Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g., Bitbucket, GitHub). - Hands-on experience with data integration and ingestion tools such as AWS Data Migration Services, Azure Data Factory, Matillion, Fivetran, or Spark. - Active daily use of AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent) with demonstrated judgment about when to trust, verify, and correct AI-generated output. - Ability to describe specific engineering tasks completed with AI assistance. Requirements - Strong client-facing communication skills, with experience presenting architectural recommendations to executive stakeholders and creating clear, detailed solution documentation. - Experience delivering and managing multiple concurrent customer engagements in a professional services or consulting environment, ensuring timely delivery and optimized operations. - Ability to serve as a trusted advisor on data platform strategy, helping clients navigate technical trade-offs to meet business goals. - Ability to break down complex, ambiguous platform challenges into structured, actionable steps and drive them through to completion. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and support, to ensure seamless project delivery and high customer satisfaction. - Proven track record of taking ownership of outcomes, anticipating upstream data and platform changes, and proactively managing risks to minimize impact on users and systems. - Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence. Education - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred Qualifications - Snowflake SnowPro Core certification or equivalent cloud/data platform certifications. - Experience using Python for task automation, tooling, and operational efficiency in cloud-native environments. - Hands-on experience with automated database deployment and CI/CD frameworks such as Flyway or Liquibase. - Advanced degrees or additional relevant certifications in data, cloud, or software engineering disciplines. - Experience supporting or implementing managed services offerings for cloud-native data platforms and working with global, remote teams. Location & Time Zone Expectations - This role is based in the US and operates primarily in Central and Eastern time zones. - We are a remote-first company, and you should be comfortable working with a distributed global team. - Some flexibility may be required to collaborate across time zones with colleagues and clients. - Client needs may occasionally require flexibility in working hours to support key milestones or workshops. Benefits - Remote-First Work Environment - 401k plan with company match - Medical, Dental and Vision insurance - Home Office Equipment Stipend - Annual stipend for Learning and Development - Competitive compensation, excellent benefits, 4 weeks PTO plan plus 10 Holidays (and other cool perks)
