Senior Optomechanical Engineer
Muon Space
• Own optomechanical design efforts including concept development, trade studies, and preliminary sizing of hardware at various levels of assembly (component to system). • Own subsystem and system-level analyses including STOP analysis, tolerance stackups, and alignment planning. • Support Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA) efforts to drive continuous improvement and volume production. • Support optical instrument assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) planning and implementation, including collaboration with cross-functional teams. • Support subsystem and instrument-level testing, including environmental (vibration, thermal-vacuum (TVAC) testing) and system characterization/V&V. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of best practices, processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in instrument development. • Collaborate and communicate effectively with subsystem engineers and analysts, instrument and spacecraft systems engineers, AI&T and production teams, program managers, external partner teams, and other stakeholders.
Job Requirements
- Ph.D. and 3+ years of experience designing optomechanical hardware for imaging systems; or M.S. and 6+ years industry experience; or B.S. and 8+ years industry experience.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for component and assembly design.
- Experience with STOP analysis tools (FEA, Sigfit, Zemax) and workflows.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, with exposure to spacecraft, infrared remote sensing instruments, and imaging systems.
- Experience working with precision optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
- Experience with system integration and delivery of complex hardware/software systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week.
- Ability to obtain security clearance strongly preferred.

• Provide accurate and complete designs in a timely manner while following standard company practices and procedures. • Responsible for final design and evaluating all codes and loads. • Assist sales and detailing departments within commercial, heavy industrial, conventional, and hybrid projects.
• Design of Analog and Mixed-Signal circuits, meeting their architectural requirements and technical specifications • Contribute to the architectural definition of the design, and also to chip integration • Perform the necessary calculations, design and verification simulations to ensure building blocks meet specifications, at the schematic level and after post layout extraction, while fully provisioning for DFT and DFM • Work closely with Layout Designers to ensure the layout is completed properly, using all best known methods • Document assigned blocks, and hold preliminary and final design reviews • Actively participate in the chip bring up, evaluation and characterization, with emphasis on owned blocks • Address questions and issues related to his/her blocks raised by cross-functional personnel, such as Product, Characterization, Test, or Application Engineers. • Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change.
