Applications Design Engineer
Industrial Manufacturing
• Provide pre-order engineering support, including preliminary drawings, communication diagrams, sequences of operation, and bills of materials. • Collaborate with design engineering, mechanical, and production teams to develop innovative solutions for unique applications. • Review customer plans, specifications, and scope of work to ensure alignment with product offerings and completeness before hand-off to design engineering. • Offer technical input to product development teams regarding new products or enhancements to existing ones. • Assist in building a library of standard design details, tools, and CAD resources for repeatable applications. • Deliver technical training on IEM products and applications to internal teams and clients. • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, IEEE) during product and order evaluations. • Provide ongoing technical consultation to internal sales and engineering teams.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in design, applications, or field service roles with a focus on power products.
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Switchgear design experience.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings.
- Experience with PLC and HMI programming, power studies, and protection coordination.
- Strong understanding of three-phase electric power systems, including distribution, control, protection strategies, and rotating machines.
- Proficiency in communications hardware and protocols, especially Ethernet networking, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
- Familiarity with UL and IEEE standards (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.) and the National Electric Code.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; self-motivated and able to work independently.
