Role Description This is a fully remote position. While the successful candidate will support Horizon Energy's engineering team, employment will be through NoBull Energy, which administers payroll, benefits, and employment-related matters. Horizon Energy is rapidly expanding our Renewable Energy (RE) Projects pipeline. As Horizon Energy continues to expand its Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) operations, we are seeking a Design Engineer to support the engineering and design of utility-scale renewable energy projects. The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for solar energy projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing solar fields, a strong understanding of renewable energy systems, and experience in electrical studies. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and optimization of solar field layouts, electrical systems, and structural components to ensure the efficient, cost-effective, and reliable delivery of solar power generation. - Develop detailed designs and layouts for solar field projects, including electrical, structural, and mechanical aspects. - Perform load analysis, energy output calculations, and simulation models to optimize solar array efficiency. - Design electrical systems, including interconnection, wiring, and balance-of-system (BOS) components for large-scale solar installations. - Collaborate with project managers and other engineers to ensure designs meet project goals, timelines, and budget constraints. - Assist with the development of technical specifications, cost estimates, and project plans. - Provide support during the installation phase, including design clarification and troubleshooting. - Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in solar energy. - Identify opportunities for improvement in solar field designs and develop innovative solutions to enhance performance and efficiency. - Ensure that all designs comply with local, national, and international codes, standards, and regulations. - Conduct quality reviews and assessments to ensure designs meet performance and safety criteria. - Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, civil, and environmental engineers, to ensure integrated and optimized solar field designs. - Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree or equivalent experience is a plus. - Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in electrical design engineering, with a focus on solar energy projects or similar renewable energy systems. - Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, solar energy technologies, and relevant industry standards and codes. - Proficiency in electrical design software and tools, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or PVsyst. - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. - Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Relevant certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) or NABCEP Solar PV Installer certification, are highly desirable.
