The Counsel, NA Regulatory will support the Food Regulation and Strategy function across a variety of legal and regulatory matters including packaging regulation, sustainability laws, and Proposition 65 as well as other areas of state and federal law relating to the sale of food and beverage products. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams such as marketing, packaging and product R&D, procurement, regulatory commercialization and strategy, government affairs, and litigation. The role requires the ability to formulate sound legal guidance that enables business decision‑making, as well as an eagerness to learn, problem solve and navigate a rapidly evolving regulatory environment. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite weekly. What’s on the menu? - Provide well-reasoned legal guidance to Kraft Heinz business teams across a variety of legal and regulatory matters, ensuring alignment with state packaging laws (including Extended Producer Responsibility, recycled content, and recyclability laws), federal requirements (including FDA and USDA regulations), and internal standards. - Work closely with and support Food Law attorneys and regulatory professionals in reading, interpreting, and advising on statutory and regulatory requirements. - Establish and operationalize best‑in‑class regulatory processes, tools, and governance models to drive agility efficiency, consistency, and scalability. - Assess and communicate legal and regulatory risks, opportunities, and emerging trends; proactively provide early‑warning insights and actionable guidance to the business. - Navigate and provide actionable plans for complex and ambiguous regulatory scenarios, including EPR requirements, other sustainability and recyclability laws, claims substantiation, and food contact materials. - Prepare and support Kraft Heinz legal and regulatory positions in collaboration with Food Law, regulatory and cross functional partners, including engagement with regulatory authorities, as appropriate. - Influence business decisions by delivering balanced, pragmatic regulatory and legal recommendations that protect the company while supporting business objectives. Recipe for Success – apply now if this sounds like you! - JD required with an active Bar license - Bachelor’s degree required - 2-5 years post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house - Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills - Proven experience reading and interpreting statutes and regulations - Experience drafting, reviewing, and editing regulatory comments, pleadings, briefs, petitions, motions, and other regulatory filings - Ability to develop, evaluate, and refine industry positions by synthesizing complex legal, regulatory, and policy issues and incorporating stakeholder feedback - Experience collaborating effectively with member companies, trade associations, government agencies, regulated entities, and outside counsel - Ability to review, critique, and improve legal work products prepared by outside counsel and other contributors - Demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders with differing perspectives and priorities - Ability to work independently within short timeframes, manage multiple priorities, and produce high-quality written work under tight deadlines - Sound judgment, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple complex matters simultaneously - Interest in, and experience in, sustainability, environmental law, packaging law or reading and interpreting EPR laws - Ability to manage multiple complex matters, many with competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality outcomes in a dynamic environment Our Total Rewards philosophy is to provide a meaningful and flexible spectrum of programs that equitably support our diverse workforce and their families and complement Kraft Heinz’ strategy and values. Role Description This non-permanent, independent contractor counsel is responsible for the preparation of Request for Proposal responses, the negotiation, interpretation and/or administration of contracts, subcontracts and licensing agreements.
