Role Description The Employment Litigation Associate will support the company’s employment-related litigation and dispute resolution matters. This role will focus on handling employment claims, advising on workplace risk, and supporting broader litigation matters as needed. This role requires being proactive, detail-oriented, and business-minded, with experience managing employment disputes in a fast-paced environment. Job Expectations - Employment Litigation & Claims - Manage and support employment-related claims, including wage and hour disputes, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and PAGA matters. - Assist in responding to administrative agency charges (e.g., EEOC, DFEH/CRD, Labor Commissioner). - Draft position statements, settlement agreements, and litigation documents. - Partner with HR and internal stakeholders on pre-litigation dispute resolution and risk mitigation. - Litigation Support - Assist in handling broader litigation matters, including commercial disputes, consumer claims, and regulatory inquiries as needed. - Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, and discovery responses. - Support case strategy development and fact investigations. - Risk Mitigation & Advisory - Provide practical legal advice to HR and business teams on employee relations matters as well as employment practices and policies. - Help develop and update employment-related policies, procedures, and training materials. - Identify trends in claims and recommend proactive risk mitigation strategies. - Outside Counsel & Operations - Coordinate with outside counsel on employment litigation matters, including managing deadlines, strategy alignment, and budgets. - Support document preservation, litigation holds, and e-discovery processes. - Maintain organized case files and assist with reporting and tracking of claims. Qualifications - Experience supporting in-house legal teams or working with corporate clients. - Exposure to multi-state or international employment issues. - Experience in e-commerce, retail, or consumer-facing industries. Requirements - Generally requires a minimum seven (7) plus years of litigation experience with a focus on employment law. - Experience handling employment claims, including agency charges and civil litigation. - Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws (e.g., FLSA, Title VII, ADA, FEHA, wage and hour laws, PAGA). - Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. - Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Strong judgment and problem-solving skills. - Ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance. - Collaborative and cross-functional mindset. - High attention to detail and organizational skills. - Strong ability for prioritization of multiple competing matters. - Effective communication and stakeholder management. Equipment Knowledge - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Experience with Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred. Education Requirements - Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. - Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar. Compensation The expected salary range for this role is $140,000 - $160,000 USD. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as the candidate's relevant experience, education, geographic location, and internal equity.
