Job Description

Design Operations Manager – Web Experience

Alpaca

• Own the website and keep it current • Drive continuous improvement of the website and keep it up to date, treating it as a living product rather than a set-and-forget asset. • Refine and elevate inputs • Fine-tune stakeholder inputs before they ship: sharpen copy, improve information hierarchy and design, and fill quality gaps in whatever way the work requires. • Uphold and set a consistent bar for brand, voice, accessibility, and visual quality across every page — with the craft ability to make edits directly, not just direct others. • Define, track, and report on outcomes • Set up quantitative metrics tied to the website's objectives, and build the tracking and reporting cadence that keeps teams honest against them. • Consistently review and improve SEO, GEO (generative/AI search), and user-funnel performance, and turn findings into prioritized improvements. • Build the infrastructure • Partner with engineering and other teams to design and develop the tooling and infrastructure behind the site — CMS, Analytics tooling, and supporting systems for blog, support/help content, and related surfaces. • Align teams and messaging • Bring teams together to shape high-level messaging for design and product updates, so the site tells one coherent story. • Facilitate the syncs, reviews, and retrospectives that keep cross-functional work moving. • Connect the content ecosystem • Ensure tight linkage between the website and adjacent content — blog, podcast, and other channels — so traffic, messaging, and discovery flow cleanly to and from the site. • Everything in between • Take on other tasks as needed to move the website and its objectives forward.

Job Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience across web operations, digital project management, design production, or a web producer role — ideally owning a company's public-facing website.
  • Strong project-management fluency: intake, prioritization, timelines, stakeholder wrangling, and clear status communication.
  • A real craft floor. You can independently execute meaningful design and copy edits to a professional standard — comfortable in the design tooling, able to work within an established design system and brand guidelines, and able to write and refine clear, on-voice web copy. You don't need to be the lead designer, but "I only give feedback" is not enough for this role.
  • Data fluency: comfort setting up and reading web/analytics data (e.g., GA4, and similar), and translating it into decisions. This role becomes ceremonial without metrics.
  • Working knowledge of SEO and GEO best practices, conversion/funnel optimization, and modern CMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, personalization, and QA workflows (brand, accessibility/WCAG, SEO checks pre-launch).
  • Technical literacy to collaborate credibly with engineering on tooling and infrastructure decisions.
  • Experience with mult-language/multi-region localization projects

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary & Stock Options
  • Health Benefits
  • New Hire Home-Office Setup: One-time USD $500
  • Monthly Stipend: USD $150 per month via a Brex Card

Role Description This role bridges the gap between creative design concepts and the final development phase. You'll support the lead design team throughout the concepting, review, and approval process, then take finalized visual layouts, optimize them, and translate them into organized, developer-ready assets and workspaces. This is not a hands-on coding role, but it does require a deep understanding of how web dev teams build websites and digital products - primarily in WordPress (and similar) environments. What You'll Do - Support the lead design team: as concepts solidify, build out supporting variations, versions, or alternates, weighing complexity against what can reasonably be achieved in web. - Incorporate revisions: refine existing layouts based on internal design team or client feedback, providing client-ready assets and email-friendly documentation as needed. - Dev-prep & optimize assets: convert design visuals into pixel-perfect, web-optimized assets, formats (SVG, WebP, PNG), and design components. - Manage design workspaces: organize and prepare Figma files for developer handoff - auto-layout, components, styles, and tidy naming conventions for layers and assets - including updates to internal Figma templates and knowledge-base docs when needed. - Jump into Adobe CC only when needed: use Photoshop or Illustrator to touch up, crop, optimize, or format imagery when Figma's quality or tools fall short (not heavy photo retouching). - Provide dev-ready assets: ensure all spacing, layouts, and exportable layers are clearly structured so developers can inspect and pull assets seamlessly. - Collaborate (mostly async): stay aligned with the creative and development teams via Slack, screencasts, bi-weekly Zoom team syncs, and project-management tasks. - Work with everyone: on a small team, you'll occasionally join client-facing meetings supporting the lead designer and/or project manager, and collaborate with the dev team during prep and QC. Qualifications - 2–4 years of experience in a production design, web production, or digital design role - Strong Figma skills (primary tool) - highly organized workspaces and command of design & developer tools, components, and variables - Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator for occasional asset prep, cropping, and web exports when Figma's tools fall short (not heavy photo retouching) - A strong grasp of web design constraints & best practices (web-first, not print-focused): responsive grids, fluid layouts, screen resolutions, and asset compression - Excellent communication & time-management skills to thrive in a remote environment - clear documentation and clear questions on Slack or project tickets - An online portfolio showcasing clean design files, digital assets, or live web project examples - Reliable availability during U.S. business hours (specific hours flexible, as long as they're communicated)
