Youth Mentor
Maze of Life Resource Center
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Mentor to join our team in support of the Denton County Probation Department. This role is crucial in providing guidance, support, and encouragement to at-risk youth involved in the probation system. Foster positive relationships with young individuals Help youth navigate challenges while promoting personal growth and resilience Work closely with youth to develop life skills and set achievable goals Provide mentorship that empowers informed decision-making Commit to building positive relationships and understanding the needs of young people Develop trusting, supportive relationships with assigned mentees Meet regularly with mentees (weekly or biweekly) for check-ins, activities, or discussions Help mentees set personal, academic, or career goals and track progress Provide guidance on life skills, such as communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and time management Promote positive behaviors and discourage risky or harmful choices Collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to support mentee growth Attend mentor training, supervision meetings, and program events Submit timely reports, attendance logs, and progress updates as required Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and program policies at all times Assist youth in identifying and accessing community resources, educational opportunities, and vocational training Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance mentoring skills and stay informed about best practices
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Minimum of one (1) year working with youth
- Passion for working with youth and making a positive difference
- Ability to relate to and build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds
- Reliable transportation and availability to meet regularly with mentees
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of insurance
- Ability to pass a background check, fingerprinting and reference checks
- Preferred Skills/Experience

- Experience in education, social work, counseling, or youth development
