Risk Control Consultant
Amerind

Researches and investigates customer and employee accidents; performs accident statistical analysis; makes recommendations to reduce accidents. Provides written and verbal recommendations on safety procedures, programs, equipment, etc. to members and clients/customers. Conducts training for AMERIND employees, members, and stakeholders on occupational safety, loss prevention, and emergency preparedness. Assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing services, programs, and activities to ensure safety measures are in place for clients. Assists in conducting safety analysis for members as requested; follows through with recommendations. Provides consultative loss prevention, risk control services, and training to clients and policyholders. Conducts comprehensive commercial property surveys and liability risk assessments for commercial customers and AMERIND members to identify potential risk exposures and hazards and to recommend improved risk controls. Actively participates in and provides support for leadership, regional and national, Native American focused conferences, events, training/professional development, and association meetings to build relationships, market new business, and networks with industry leaders. Provides support, education and resources to members and customers pertinent to emergency action plans, response protocols, and mitigation strategies. Maintains proper records in accordance with company policies on records retention. Accurate and timely documentation of client interactions, risk assessments, property surveys, recommendations and implemented risk control measures. Conducts claims and underwriting-directed field support. Keeps abreast of new technologies and principles by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations. Supports the efforts of AMERIND’s Safety Committee in safeguarding personnel and company assets, preparing the organization and its personnel for potential accidents or emergencies, and aiding organizational response and post-incident recovery efforts as necessary. Participates in cross-functional team process-improvement projects in support of AMERIND’s culture to build teamwork, collaboration, and inclusiveness among team members. Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in safety, business management, insurance, risk management, or related field required; And Minimum of three years’ experience in Risk Control or Loss Control for a commercial insurance company Must possess a valid driver’s license. No major violations. Travel required over 50% of time. Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. No felony, theft, or fraud convictions. New employees must complete the Associate in Insurance (AINS) designation within six months from the end of the 90-day evaluation period to be eligible for advancement and incentive compensation. For continued employment, employees must complete an elective course and six hours of professional development within 12 months after the end of the 90-day evaluation period. Knowledge of fraud detection. Knowledgeable of internal investigation and interview techniques. Knowledgeable of standard principles and practices in areas of specialty. Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing with staff and the public. Ability to prioritize, work independently and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to operate various environmental equipment. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; plan and conduct safety training to individuals and groups and conduct effective meetings. Ability to investigate, gather data, compile information, analyze information, draw conclusions and prepare reports. Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment. Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports. Skill in conducting investigations and research. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Typical business office setting with moderate noise level and outdoor settings with a high noise level. Non-office environment may be encountered for offsite presentations and support of company activities. Exposure to natural weather conditions and temperatures, various dusts, smoke and mists, and normal debris and hazards may occur while performing outdoor duties. Must be able to sit for work at a computer for more than 6 hours per day. Must be able to stand and walk for more than 6 hours per day when on client site or at events. Must be able to use hands for dexterity of motion and reach with hands and arms. Extensive use of computer keyboards. Frequently required to talk and hear. Must have ability to occasionally lift 40+ lbs.
