Controller – GovCon Accounting/Finance
P & S Consultants
• Own and actively execute core general ledger accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and maintenance of financial data. • Lead and drive the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and a consistent close timeline. • Prepare and review key close schedules, including revenue recognition, labor distributions, and balance sheet reconciliations. • Identify and resolve discrepancies and ensure all financial data is accurate and audit-ready. • Prepare and finalize monthly financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP. • Deliver financial reporting, variance analysis, and key performance metrics to leadership. • Maintain direct involvement in billing processes, including review and escalation support for invoice preparation and submission. • Own revenue recognition and ensure alignment between contract data, billing, and financial reporting. • Own and oversee the payroll process, including review and approval of payroll runs. • Oversee and support execution of accounts payable and expense reimbursement processes. • Own day-to-day cash management, including monitoring cash position and liquidity needs. • Own coordination of tax and compliance activities, including payroll taxes, 1099s, W-2s, and state registrations. • Maintain the integrity of accounting data within Unanet and related systems, including alignment between project data and the general ledger. • Manage and support the finance team, providing clear direction, development, and oversight.
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of accounting/finance experience with increasing responsibility; prior experience in a team leadership role is required
- Direct experience in government contracting (GovCon) finance , including familiarity with FAR and DCAA requirements
- Experience leading full-cycle accounting and financial operations in a hands-on role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent government contracting and accounting experience may be considered in lieu of formal education; CPA is a plus

Role Description We are a fast-growing, sales-driven travel company. Our business is characterized by high average transaction value and complex trip economics, including supplier costs, commissions, incentives, refunds, exchanges, ADM/ACM, ancillary products, claims and post-sale adjustments. The Financial Controller will own the monthly close, accounting accuracy and preparation of the company's financial statements. The role will consolidate revenue and gross profit data provided by the Revenue & Gross Profit Manager with operating expenses, payroll and other corporate costs to produce a complete and reliable view of the company's financial performance. The role reports to the Finance Director and supervises the Finance Operations / AP & Treasury Specialist. Key Responsibilities - Own the monthly accounting close and reporting calendar. - Prepare the actual P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement. - Calculate and report actual EBITDA. - Ensure accurate accounting for operating expenses, payroll, accruals, reserves, assets and liabilities. - Reconcile revenue, COGS and gross profit schedules to the general ledger. - Review accounting cutoff and ensure transactions are recognized in the correct period. - Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and resolve aged or unexplained balances. - Oversee AP, AR, bank reconciliations and payment operations. - Review payment registers and supporting documentation. - Coordinate payroll accounting, tax filings, statutory reporting and audit requests. - Prepare monthly management reporting and explain material actual variances. - Maintain accounting policies, reporting definitions and internal financial controls. - Improve and automate accounting, reconciliation and reporting processes. Qualifications - 6–10 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting or financial control. - At least 3 years in an Accounting Manager, Reporting Manager, Financial Controller or similar role. - Strong experience preparing P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements. - Strong knowledge of monthly close, accruals, cutoff, reconciliations and balance sheet control. - Experience with AP, AR, payroll accounting, taxes and payment controls. - Experience reconciling operational systems or subledgers to the general ledger. - Experience supervising accounting or finance operations staff. - Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills. - Experience with ERP or accounting systems and reporting tools. - Strong ownership, attention to detail and ability to challenge unsupported financial data. - Strong written and verbal English.
