Role Description This position requires you to reside in Japan during your employment with Wizcorp. Wizcorp is looking for highly experienced Unity Programmers to work on exciting projects for next-generation consoles. Depending on your background, skills, and experience, we’ll find the most suitable role within our teams. Is this job for me? 👨🦰👩🦳🧑🦲 - You have several years of work experience working with Unity and have released games on PC and consoles. - C# needs to be your lingua franca, but you should also not be afraid to deep-dive into the engine itself, building plugins and tools in C++ or any other language necessary to make improvements. - You have experience solving deep, complex problems in the various Unity rendering pipelines, the Addressables system, and other key systems of Unity. Typical day 🎮📆🕹️ - Review code from other engineers and ensure they meet quality expectations. - Implement control systems for consoles in a clean and extensible manner. - Investigate performance on the target platform and modify the game or engine to improve this. - Test updated code on target platforms to ensure correctness and performance. The ideal candidate will be able to: - Utilize their full grasp of Unity's lifecycle, including domain reloading, scene management, and deep profiling. - Work confidently to solve deep, complex problems in Unity's rendering pipelines - primarily URP, with familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines considered a strong plus. - Structure and build logical, performant groups of assets using the Addressables system. - Design and implement custom editor extensions, inspectors, and tools to streamline workflows. - Work autonomously on your code with minimal oversight. - Break down large features into engineering tasks and work with other engineers to complete them. - Mentor engineers in software development best practices. - Have an interest in working on both games and their tools. - Confidently communicate with all members of the company. Qualifications - Ability to write clean, readable, performant code and design the architecture around it. - Excellent debugging and optimization skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication. - Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to technical discussions. - Eager to both provide and receive constructive feedback for continual growth. - Strong software development skills, design theory, and development processes. - Strong personal time management. - End-to-end software development knowledge. - Full grasp of Unity's lifecycle, domain reloading, scene management, and deep profiling. - Experience in one or multiple of the following: - Development experience in Unity's rendering pipelines - primarily URP, with familiarity in HDRP, SRP, or custom pipelines considered a strong plus. - Experience setting up and managing usage of Unity’s Addressable system. - Familiarity with Unity’s core system internal systems, and knowledge on how to customize them. - Designing and implementing custom editor extensions, inspectors, and tools to streamline workflows. - Development targeting PlayStation platforms and Nintendo platforms. Requirements - University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline; or relevant professional experience. - For Japan-based candidates: 5+ total years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years of professional experience using Unity and 2+ years of professional experience developing console games (including using test kits and dev kits). - For overseas-based candidates: 7+ total years of professional software engineering experience, 6+ years of professional experience using Unity and 6+ years of professional experience developing console games (including using test kits and dev kits). - Solid software engineering abilities (good code hygiene, familiarity with various coding patterns, etc.). - Strong experience with C++ and debugging in Unreal Engine. - Comfortable with source code management systems (Git, SVN, Perforce, etc.). - At least conversational Japanese proficiency - JLPT N3 or above. - English proficiency (ability to read, write, and discuss technical matters). • Own small to medium OutSystems low-code solutions and features from design through production with minimal guidance. • Improve solution quality and team practices, mentor Application Developer 1 teammates through clear documentation, thoughtful reviews, and knowledge sharing as appropriate, and participate in the weekly on-call rotation handling a broader set of incidents. • Influence spans the solution or feature area. • Lead implementation of OutSystems Reactive Web applications and workflow automation features or components in Service Studio, break down work, estimate, and drive to delivery. • Conduct thoughtful reviews of applications, automations, and configurations for clarity, maintainability, and correctness, raise the bar on testing and documentation. • Support production solutions, lead incident triage for the team's area using execution history, logs, and telemetry, and document findings and fixes in the team wiki and repository READMEs where appropriate. • Contribute to incident reviews and follow-ups that reduce repeat issues, including improvements to error handling, alerts, and resilience patterns. • Apply sound solution architecture principles in everyday work, guide Application Developer 1 teammates on the basics, and improve observability, reliability, security, and privacy baselines for owned solutions. • Partner with product and design on solution shaping, highlight risks and tradeoffs such as platform licensing, performance, and governance constraints, and propose pragmatic alternatives. • Contribute to team design documents, review designs for adjacent solutions or integrations, and champion documentation quality. • Identify and deliver incremental refactors that reduce toil, improve performance, and increase reuse across low-code solutions. • Participate in daily standups and core team ceremonies, communicate status and risks early.
