Role Description Lead the future of virtual care! We are seeking an experienced and dynamic clinical leader to join our Integrated Care Division as Head of Service - Virtual Care. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of Virtual Care services across 999 and 111 Integrated Urgent and Emergency Care. The post holder will provide visible clinical leadership across Emergency Operations Centres, 111 Contact Centres, and virtual clinical services, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Accountable for national performance standards, the role will lead the continued development of innovative Virtual Care models, including the Clinical Assessment Service (CAS). This is a pivotal opportunity to influence system-wide urgent and emergency care delivery, working collaboratively with internal teams, system partners, and stakeholders to improve patient outcomes and experience. Qualifications - Registered healthcare professional with current professional registration - Educated to Master's level or equivalent experience in a senior clinical leadership role - Evidence of advanced clinical practice (or equivalent level of clinical expertise) - Leadership or management qualification (or equivalent experience) - Desirable: Independent non-medical prescriber qualification - Desirable: Formal qualification in leadership, organisational development, or service transformation - Desirable: Specialist training in urgent and emergency care systems or Clinical Decision Support Systems (e.g. NHS Pathways) Requirements - Extensive knowledge of urgent and emergency care systems, including 999 and 111 Integrated Urgent Care - In-depth understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory frameworks (including CQC standards) - Knowledge of national policy, performance frameworks (e.g. ARP, IUC MDS), and NHS priorities - Desirable: Understanding of financial management within the NHS - Desirable: Knowledge of digital healthcare systems and virtual care models Benefits - Option to join NHS pension scheme - A minimum 27 days' holiday each year, increasing after 5 years' service - Personal and professional development and training opportunities - Salary Sacrifice schemes for cars or push bikes - Access to occupational health and counselling services - Award winning wellbeing hub - Access to NHS discounts, offering NHS employees a range of money-saving deals - Other than in exceptional circumstances, the starting salary for staff new to the NHS will be the bottom point of the band to which they have been appointed

The Modern Animal Virtual Doctor should be competent and comfortable in the performance of the following duties and responsibilities in a virtual environment: - Process tasks relating to diagnostic results, medical questions, and medication requests. - Formulate and execute appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans; modify/alter plans in light of new information or a change in the clinical state of the patient. - Work through tasks efficiently. - Have a strong ability to get information from owners via the written word as well as while speaking to them over phone or chat using open ended questioning. - Communicate clearly and succinctly with clients regarding laboratory findings, preventive care recommendations, diagnostic and treatment options, and disease prognosis. - Work closely with other practice doctors to ensure continuity of care and communication and adherence to medical standards. - Consult with specialists regarding patient diagnostics and/or response to therapy; transfer care and/or refer as appropriate. - Resolve client services issues by communicating with clients and understanding their feedback when their experience with us has been sub-standard; lead efforts to improve processes/experiences as necessary; escalate to Lead Virtual Care Doctor. - Work with Care Team to deliver care virtually, including reviewing and reporting lab results for in clinic doctors as needed, answer questions for virtual care technicians and hosts. Qualifications - Graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school (or completion of required clinical proficiency exams if foreign graduate). - Licensure in good standing in the state of California. - At least two years experience in the practice of small animal veterinary medicine and surgery is required. - Competence in the performance of surgical and dental procedures that would be routinely anticipated to occur in a general small animal practice. - Competence in the delivery of patient-appropriate anesthetic protocols. - Competence in the work-up of medical cases that would be routinely anticipated to be manageable in a general practice setting. - Competence in both outside and in-house diagnostic modalities including digital whole body and dental radiography, hematology and serum chemistries, cytology, etc. - Willingness to grow and adapt, and an inclination to embrace change and work together to build an optimal solution for all. - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
