Title: L&I REVENUE AGENT 1 Location: Tumwater United States Job Description: L&I REVENUE AGENT 1 Salary $49,296.00 - $66,072.00 Annually Location Thurston County - Tumwater, WA Job Type Full Time - Permanent Job Number 2026-04945 Department Dept. of Labor & Industries Division CSCPS - Collections Description Job Highlights As our Revenue Agent 1, you’ll contribute to the economic well-being of L&I by collecting debts owed to the department. You'll use your knowledge of laws and policies to educate customers and negotiate payment plans. This position specifically connects to the agency strategic Goal 3: "Make it easy to do business with L&I" and Goal 4: "Help honest workers, businesses and providers by cracking down on the dishonest ones. Duties Some of what you’ll do: Collects money owed to the Department in accordance with RCW’s, timelines, policies and procedures using an automated dialer system - Contacts delinquent debtors using an automated phone dialer system 6.5 hours a day and/or correspondence to initiate collection of delinquent receivables due to the agency - Independently contacts the delinquent accounts using entry level techniques in collection work, explaining applicable RCW’s, WAC’s, and policies - As part of a phone collections unit, agents collect on all debts and work an assigned caseload that requires limited legal actions such as issuing notice of assessments (NOAs) and/or filing warrants, recording liens and executing garnishments (levies) - Analyzes employer and account information for potential issues, fraudulent activity or criminal behavior - Collaborates with internal/external compliance groups and makes referrals through Referral Tracking System as appropriate - Educates customers and/or their representatives on laws, rules, policies, procedures, quarterly reporting requirements, online filing and payment options. Provides assistance with questions regarding collection actions and processes - Documents all actions and conversations in the appropriate collection systems and sends all documents to imaging (Orion) - Assists customers by phone in completing and filing their quarterly industrial insurance reports in a professional and courteous manner - Trains for and uses appropriate tools and skills for the collection of these debts. Ensure that individuals and businesses in the state receive fair and equal treatment - Evaluates customer’s financial records and information to determine ability to repay debt owed to the agency - Negotiates payment agreements with customers or their legal representative. Monitors payment agreements and takes appropriate action if the customer defaults - Locates individuals using professional skip tracing methods that includes database searches, internet research, fact-finding interviews and field investigations. - Refers accounts to field Revenue Agents for complex collection actions or as needed. - Refers to appropriate L&I staff depending on the customer’s needs. Performs caseload management and administrative actions to collect money owed to the Department in accordance with RCW’s, timelines, policies and procedures on assigned caseloads. - Manages a caseload of collection assignments in both ARC and LINIIS - Reviews and processes waiver requests - Responds to and takes action on accounts with requests received by emails, faxes and mail - Locates individuals using professional skip tracing methods that includes, database searches, internet research, fact-finding interviews and field investigations - Analyzes employer and account information for potential issues, fraudulent activity or criminal behavior - Collaborates with internal/external compliance groups and makes referrals through Referral Tracking System as appropriate - And so much more! Qualifications Required: - A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in business administration, accounting, police science, public administration, economics, law, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or closely related field. OR - Two years as a Tax Service Representative or Excise Tax Assistant. AND Experience in the collection of civil debts, law enforcement, personal or corporate finance, adjustment of claims, or investigations involving personal background, business practices or fraud, will be substituted, year-for-year, for education.
