Compliance Analyst

Paymentology

Role Description The Compliance Analyst is responsible for managing the AML and KYC requirements, while supporting the business in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risk. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining a robust compliance risk management system, with emphasis on AML, client onboarding, anti-corruption, and conflict of interests. - Ensures that procedures and controls are properly implemented in business processes. - Oversees key Compliance risks through comprehensive monitoring and testing. - Oversees relationships with partner banks. - Implements new controls and interprets compliance requirements. - Supports the Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager in executing effective compliance programmes and risk management practices. Key Responsibilities - Risk Assessment and Mitigation: - Conduct risk assessment for new clients, vendors, products, and market entries to identify and mitigate compliance risks. - Manage ongoing AML, sanctions screening, KYC, and due diligence checks, ensuring compliance with South African and international regulations. - Implement and maintain an agile compliance risk management system based on recognised standards. - Ensure alignment with Paymentology's risk appetite and compliance with relevant laws and regulations, particularly in the AML/KYC space. - Reporting and Documentation: - Prepare accurate reports and documentation for senior management, regulatory bodies, and internal and external stakeholders to demonstrate robust compliance controls. - Establish systems for maintaining accurate records of compliance activities, including documentation of policies, training sessions, and supporting audits, reviews, and investigations. - Coordinate completion of compliance-related due diligence questionnaires, requested by clients during onboarding and as needed. - Support Paymentology's third-party risk management process and due diligence efforts for new and existing clients. - Maintain the Enhanced Due Diligence process and records. - Investigating Issues: - Support investigations of complaints, incidents, allegations, or potential violations of compliance standards, and take appropriate corrective actions as necessary. - Identify root causes of compliance issues and breaches and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. - Supporting Operations: - Ensure day-to-day operations adhere to relevant compliance standards and policies. - Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures as needed. - Keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to Paymentology's operations and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance. - Conduct research on regulatory and compliance requirements in different regions of operation, with a focus on AML/KYC regulations. - Update internal teams on relevant changes and implications for the organisation. - Support the business in complying with frameworks, processes, and best practices. - Communicate compliance policies and procedures to ensure that team members understand their obligations and responsibilities. - Lead on special projects, such as implementing compliance tools, systems and ensure effective change management. - Managing Compliance Audits: - Perform regular reviews and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance programmes and identify areas for improvement or corrective action. - Coordinate and drive compliance reviews conducted by external parties. - Liaise with multiple teams within Paymentology to collect and review necessary documentation and samples. - Providing Training and Guidance: - Deliver training sessions and workshops to educate staff members on compliance requirements, ethical standards, and expected best practices. - Support the development and rollout of the annual learning program in both in-person and e-learning formats. - Provide guidance on compliance-related inquiries and issues. - Collaboration and Communication: - Work closely with various departments to ensure alignment of compliance efforts with overall business objectives. - Establish and maintain productive relationships with Alliance partner banks to address compliance-related issues and support their compliance requirements. - Negotiate solutions that align with both company and external party requirements. - Perform reviews for new market entries, product development, and anti-financial crimes programs (e.g. gifts and entertainment approval). Qualifications - Strong understanding of the global regulatory landscapes and industry standards, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Know Your Customer (KYC), sanctions screening, and Anti-Corruption regulations. - In-depth knowledge of global AML legislation (e.g. EU AML Directives and the new AML Regulations), FATF guidelines, UK Bribery Act, FCPA, Global Sanctions Regimes. - Proficiency in risk analysis techniques with ability to apply and implement risk management frameworks and tools. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. - Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite, with strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint. - Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills to address compliance issues and reach consensus. - Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills. - Proven track record in driving and managing change collaboratively, ideally in a regional or global role. - Effective organisational and project management skills to manage multiple tasks and projects. - Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and effectively operationalise them. - Familiarity with compliance-related software tools, such as sanction screening, (digital) identity verification and AML monitoring systems. - Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) tools is a plus. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Law, or a related field. - Compliance and/or risk management certifications such as ACAMS are preferred. - Equivalent work experience can sometimes be considered in lieu of formal education or certification. - Minimum 5 years of experience in compliance, audit and/or risk management. - Demonstrable experience in financial crimes prevention and detection. - Experience within the payments space and/or highly regulated environments is preferred.
