Preconstruction Engineer

• Review civil, structural, and A/MEP design packages for constructability, completeness, and cost impact • Assist with conceptual analysis and design of building and infrastructure systems and draw conclusions to inform design intent • Translate design intent into cost models and execution strategies • Lead technical design review sessions with consultants and contractors • Identify opportunities to optimize infrastructure layouts, phasing, and systems for cost and schedule efficiency on project and reference designs • Develop conceptual budgets and milestone estimates aligned with development objectives • Evaluate alternative design solutions and value engineering options • Partner with development teams to assess project feasibility and capital exposure • Support scope definition and contract packaging strategy • Serve as the bridge between external design teams, development and construction partners • Coordinate with internal engineering groups to align technical standards and performance requirements • Work with internal procurement and supplier teams to manage long-lead infrastructure components • Support bid leveling, scope alignment, and contract negotiations • Identify infrastructure and constructability risks early in design • Contribute to phasing plans and high-level schedule development • Ensure seamless transition from preconstruction into active construction
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
- 4–8+ years of experience in civil design, infrastructure design, or consulting engineering (mission-critical experience a plus)
- Strong understanding of site infrastructure, utilities, and coordination with structural and MEP systems
- Working knowledge of US building codes and design standards
- Ability to think beyond design details and evaluate cost, risk, and execution strategy
- Experience working directly with multidisciplinary design teams
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions
- Interest in transitioning from design execution to project strategy and delivery
- Ability to operate strategically while managing detailed technical scope
- Executive-level communication skills and ability to influence decision-makers.

• Plan and oversee the execution of repair projects, including masonry, painting, waterproofing, and structural upkeep of residential units. • Perform routine technical inspections to identify any defects and prioritize them in the maintenance schedule. • Select and manage specialized contractors, ensuring their work aligns with the project’s technical specifications and safety codes. • Organize the workflow for daily repair requests, ensuring that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and within the established deadlines. • Estimate the quantity and quality of materials needed for repairs and manage the technical approval of suppliers. • Maintain accurate records of all structural interventions and warranties for civil works.
• Lead and manage seismic compliance for low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, including both standard products and custom design-to-order offerings. • Own the planning, execution, and documentation of seismic qualification programs in accordance with ICC-ES AC156, IBC, UBC, IEEE 693, and related standards. • Manage HCAi (formerly OSHPD) seismic preapprovals, enabling maximum flexibility for custom design-to-order equipment. • Collaborate with our clients’ Structural Engineers of Record (SEOR) and AHJs on site-specific studies and approvals for custom-engineered equipment. • Coordinate the design, fabrication, and analysis of seismic test articles in collaboration with product development and manufacturing teams. • Plan, schedule, and support shake table testing at external laboratories, including travel to witness and support tests. • Review test data, evaluate results, and prepare technical reports and certification submittals. • Support R&D and product development by designing and optimizing structural components within electrical equipment. • Design and analyze equipment skids, frames, enclosures, and containerized or modular power solutions. • Provide structural guidance on anchorage, load paths, vibration, and transport-related considerations. • Support continuous improvement of structural design practices, seismic strategies, and internal engineering standards.
