We are looking for an experienced Attorney with significant experience with Premises Liability, Products Liability, and Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. The ideal candidate is an experienced Attorney with considerable trial experience and demonstrates the ability to independently handle cases from inception through trial. RESPONSIBILITES: - Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and well-reasoned legal research - Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients - Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies independently, with no or minimal supervision based on level of experience and expertise - Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insureds - Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claim partners on legal and factual issues - Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion - Provide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases - Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and/or alternative dispute resolutions - Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients - Provide legal opinions to Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? - Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia - JD from accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and ability to practice in federal courts. - First-chair jury trial/appellate experience is strongly preferred - Demonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of claim cases and litigation - Strong legal research and writing skills - Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a must - Strong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required; including use of AI WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME? This position is a remote work position; however, the selected candidate shall be available to travel as needed within the state of Maryland and District of Columbia. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
