Job Description

Mortgage Compliance Counsel

CrossCountry Mortgage, LLC

• Provide legal guidance on identified compliance risks and issues to support mortgage origination compliance and operations • Provide legal and compliance support for regulatory examination findings, regulatory or consumer complaints, and inquiries from stakeholders or counterparties, including conducting system-level research to support response preparation • Assist with development of solutions related to regulatory findings identified through examination, testing, and monitoring, including root cause of issues and associated remediation • Provide legal guidance on post-close suspense items to support timely clearing of conditions, reduce compliance-related delays, and help ensure investor delivery timelines are met • Provide legal support to defects causing critical loan salability issues and coordinate cross-functionally to develop corrective actions • Provide compliance legal support for use of technology in originations including the Company’s LOS, point of sale system, and proprietary technology solutions • Draft policies and procedures to address federal and state regulatory requirements ensuring both accuracy and understandability across the organization • Serve as a resource for compliance support escalations, providing timely legal analysis and practical guidance on regulatory questions • Prepare legal research, memoranda, and recommendations on compliance matters for senior counsel and leadership

Job Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage lending compliance
  • Knowledge of federal and state mortgage lending regulations, including but not limited to Dodd Frank Wallstreet Reform Act, QM/ATR, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, UDAAP, and SAFE Act
  • Experience supporting compliance programs in the mortgage lending industry
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct
