The Hartford's Employee Benefits division is seeking a Business Intelligence Manager (T7) to lead the strategy, delivery, and modernization of our BI reporting ecosystem. This role blends hands-on data engineering expertise with people leadership, overseeing a team of onshore and offshore resources while driving the transformation of our reporting platforms. The ideal candidate is a technically skilled, strategically minded leader who thrives in a fast-paced, regulated environment and is passionate about using data to drive business outcomes. Key Responsibilities BI Platform Modernization & Roadmap Management - Lead the rationalization and replatforming of existing Business Intelligence reports from SAP Business Objects to SAP BI 2027 and/or ThoughtSpot (for Actuarial-specific reporting). - Establish and manage a comprehensive migration roadmap inclusive of leadership checkpoints, stakeholder readouts, and progress reporting to senior management. - Evaluate and recommend future BI delivery capabilities including Generative AI, Agentic AI solutions, self-service analytics, and delivery efficiencies that minimize rework and exceed customer expectations. Team Leadership & People Management - Directly manage a blended team of Hartford employees and Cognizant contractors, including 1 Hartford onshore employee, 1 Cognizant onshore resource, and 8 Cognizant offshore contractors. - Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management across the team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. - Model The Hartford's expected behaviors and leadership competencies; provide leadership perspective and strategic counsel to peers across the organization. Ad Hoc Analytics & Customer Support - Field ad hoc data and analytics requests from field partners, customers, and leaders on a wide range of Employee Benefits insurance topics. - Write and execute SQL queries against Snowflake, Oracle, and other data sources to investigate questions, produce datasets, and deliver timely answers. - Leverage ThoughtSpot and other BI tools to provide rapid, accurate insights while meeting strict deadlines. Regulatory, Compliance & Statutory Reporting - Own and manage recurring compliance and statutory state reporting obligations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to all regulatory requirements. - Manage industry survey data submissions and responses. - Oversee and rationalize managed file transfer (MFT) data transmissions to external partners and vendors, ensuring proper data governance and protection against data breaches. Vendor & Financial Management - Review monthly contractor invoices to verify that billed hours are accurate and aligned with actuals, in coordination with the director. - Partner with vendor management and procurement as needed to ensure contract compliance and cost efficiency. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, data engineering, analytics, or a related discipline, preferably within the Employee Benefits insurance domain. - Strong SQL proficiency with hands-on experience querying and manipulating data in enterprise database environments. - Demonstrated experience with BI and analytics platforms, specifically SAP Business Objects and ThoughtSpot. - Working knowledge of Snowflake and Oracle database environments. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Copilot. - Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a deadline-driven, regulated environment. - Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data sets and translate findings into actionable insights. - Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to stakeholders at all levels. - Experience managing or leading teams, including blended onshore/offshore and employee/contractor models. - Direct experience in Employee Benefits insurance (group life, disability, absence management, or related lines of business) preferred. - Experience leading BI platform migrations or large-scale reporting transformation programs. - Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and participation in value streams or product teams. - Exposure to Generative AI, Agentic AI, or advanced analytics concepts as they apply to BI delivery. - Business Intelligence certifications (e.g., SAP, ThoughtSpot, Snowflake, or equivalent). - This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
