Senior Engineering Manager
OpenLoop Health
OpenLoop is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and a passion for building high-quality software products that deliver exceptional user experiences. Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Management: Leads, mentors, and develops a team of 3–7 software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, urgency, and over-communication. Conducts regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning. Recruits, interviews, and onboards new engineering talent. Collaborates with engineering leadership on team planning and resource allocation while promoting best practices in software development and code quality. Technical Strategy & Product Development: Defines and implements technical strategy aligned with business objectives and our Cloud Center of Excellence. Oversees the full software development lifecycle from conception through deployment. Drives architectural decisions and technology stack choices, ensuring code quality, security, scalability, and maintainability. Champions agile development methodologies, continuous integration, and leads technical design reviews and architecture discussions. Spends 20%–30% of time doing hands-on technical work. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners strategically with Product to translate requirements into technical solutions. Collaborates with QA to establish comprehensive testing strategies. Works with SRE to ensure seamless deployments. Communicates technical progress and challenges to stakeholders and provides technical expertise to other business teams. Requirements 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in management roles leading high-performing engineering teams. Experience with full-stack development and modern architectures, the software development lifecycle, release management, and agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban). Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages (TypeScript, Python, etc.) and at least 5+ years of experience with Node.js. Deep understanding of software architecture and design principles, with advanced experience using AWS. Knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL database systems. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks. Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements. Advanced English (C1), with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience leading technical discussions, presenting to stakeholders, and translating business requirements into technical execution. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with experience in conflict resolution and team dynamics. Proven ability to attract and retain high-performing engineering talent. Preferred Qualifications (desired): Experience in startup environments and in highly regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, etc.). Experience with event-driven architecture, distributed systems, open-source contributions, and community involvement. Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular). Knowledge of machine learning and AI technologies. Understanding of performance optimization and scalability, with experience using monitoring and observability tools. Familiarity with data analytics or BI tools. AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar cloud certifications.
