Role Description We are expanding our Specialized Claims organization and are seeking an experienced leader to join our Major Case Unit. This Fully Remote position offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 to $195,000, depending on experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated ability to manage teams that work on high-exposure, highly complex claims. This role is responsible for leading a team of experienced claims adjusters handling the company’s highest exposure and most complex claims. This role oversees daily operations, drives strategic initiatives, and ensures effective claims handling aligned with organizational goals. This role sets clear objectives, leads projects, and provides coaching and mentorship to build and sustain a high performing, engaged workforce. The position requires a high level of technical expertise and collaboration with professionals across various disciplines, including defense attorneys, experts, underwriters, and agents. Specialized claims handled by the MCU include: - Large casualty exposures valued at more than $1M. - Molestation and sexual offenses. - Personal and advertising injuries. - Toxic tort, asbestos, and environmental exposures. - Healthcare and human service professional liability exposures. - New York Labor Law claims. - Cyber and data breach claims. - E&S claims. - Program and TPA-involved claims. - Construction defect claims. - Discrimination claims. In this role you will: - Lead a team of adjusters handling the company’s largest and most complex claims. - Provide daily oversight of operations to ensure effective claims handling aligned with corporate business strategies. - Collaborate with leadership to assess resource needs and implement continuous improvement efforts to enhance quality, service, and cost efficiency. - Monitor team performance through file reviews, data analysis, and customer feedback. - Provide coaching, mentoring, and development to professionals in the claim organization. - Make staffing recommendations, participate in hiring and disciplinary actions, and manage salary administration linked to performance. - Serve as a subject matter expert in specialized claim areas. - Oversee complex litigation strategies, direct outside counsel, and manage litigation-related expenses. - Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. - Prepare and deliver reports on business trends, financial activity, and claim outcomes. - Communicate key issues and strategic insights to appropriate audiences, adapting style to ensure clarity and alignment. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree preferred with related claims experience. - JD or equivalent experience strongly desired. - Experience using claims management systems and data analysis tools for documentation, reporting, and process optimization. - Skilled in managing litigation with outside counsel and executing negotiation strategies for high-stakes claims. - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. - Proven ability to coach and develop individuals and teams to support long-term career growth and build a culture of continuous learning and innovation. - Highly organized with the ability to manage complex projects, workflows, and organizational strategies. - Ability to make sound decisions in high-impact or ambiguous situations and balancing competing demands while ensuring alignment with corporate goals. - Experience managing significant legal or reputational risks and overseeing strategic decision-making across a business. - Must maintain appropriate state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits. Requirements - Ability to manage a high volume of work is often necessary to meet deadlines. - Required to work on-site as needed. - May be required to maintain a reliable, high-speed home internet connection for remote work. - Ability to work extended hours as business demands require, including evenings or weekends as needed. - Willingness and ability to travel as necessary for business purposes. - Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. - Proficient in using a personal computer and standard office equipment.
