• Review pull requests for correctness, readability, maintainability, performance, and security before code is merged • Provide clear, constructive, and actionable written feedback aligned with the client’s engineering standards • Identify architectural concerns, design tradeoffs, and maintainability risks that go beyond syntax or style issues • Escalate complex technical concerns to the client’s tech lead with enough context to support fast decision-making • Enforce API consistency, backward compatibility, and clean integration patterns across services and applications • Spot common security vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, XSS, IDOR, unsafe authentication flows, and insecure data handling • Help maintain consistent code quality across backend, frontend, database, and cloud-native work depending on the assigned client stack • Support a healthy review culture by giving feedback that is professional, specific, and respectful • Deliver reliable pull request review turnaround within agreed async workflows, generally within 24 hours • Document recurring code quality issues and patterns so the team can improve over time
Job Requirements
- Must-Have:**
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in a relevant production environment
- Strong written English at C1 level or higher; this is non-negotiable because most feedback will be written
- Meaningful hands-on experience reviewing pull requests in GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or a similar workflow
- Strong experience in at least one of these stacks: Node.js or Python backend with React/TypeScript and PostgreSQL; Java with Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS or GCP; or Python data/backend stack with FastAPI or Django, SQL, and cloud-native systems
- Solid understanding of clean code, SOLID principles, common design patterns, and maintainable software architecture
- Ability to identify security, performance, backward compatibility, and architectural risks in code reviews
- Experience working independently in an asynchronous remote environment and able to deliver pull request reviews within 24 hours
- Nice to Have:**
- Experience reviewing code across both backend and frontend systems
- Familiarity with cloud-native development patterns in AWS or GCP
- Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or API versioning
- Background mentoring engineers through written technical feedback
- Experience creating or improving code review standards, checklists, or engineering guidelines

The position will support numerous facets of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Fire Life Safety Program, FLS Guidance, policy development, and planning. You will assist the Environmental Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) Services Group to support and improve Fire Life Safety program elements intended to protect employees and others in the workplace and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and FAA laws and regulations. Senior Fire Protection Engineer Basic Qualifications: - Bachelors degree and 8 or more years relevant exempt experience or Masters degree and 6 or more years relevant exempt experience. - Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection Engineering or willingness and ability to obtain one. - 5+ years of progressive experience in the Fire Life Safety/Fire Protection field. - Strong working knowledge of applicable ICC and NFPA codes. - Past experience developing and/or providing holistic consultation on FLS programs. - Ability to produce FLS designs of a variety of critical FLS elements, and be able to provide critical comments on FLS designs and installations. - Former experience in training FLS concepts and code application is required. experience working in a team and collaborating on issues as a peer with other Fire Protection Engineers. - Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance. - Travel up to 50% of the time to various FAA locations within this region.
