Role Description We're looking for a highly skilled Senior Product Engineer who is excited about building in an AI native, agentic world. This is not a traditional frontend or backend role! It’s for engineers who: - Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) as a force multiplier. - Think in terms of systems, workflows, and agents, not just endpoints and screens. - Can turn ambiguous product problems into working, production-ready solutions. - Want to help evolve our platform toward an agent-driven future in healthcare. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and other engineers to re-imagine how our systems are built, extended, and operated as AI becomes a first class part of the development process. What You’ll Do - Build AI Native Systems - Design, implement, and operate backend and fullstack systems that incorporate LLMs, tools, and agents as core components. - Build agentic workflows (multi-step, tool using, stateful systems) that solve real product and operational problems. - Integrate LLMs safely and reliably into production systems, with attention to observability, cost, and failure modes. - Engineer with AI as a Partner - Use modern AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code/Codex/Pi/Cursor) to accelerate development, refactoring, and exploration. - Set patterns and standards for how AI is used in day to day engineering work. - Help the team move faster without sacrificing quality or clarity. - Product Driven Engineering - Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, and other stakeholders to shape solutions, not just implement specs. - Translate high level goals into technical architecture and execution plans. - Contribute to roadmap discussions with a strong systems and platform perspective. - Own the System End to End - Design APIs, services, and data models (primarily backend leaning). - Ensure reliability, security, privacy, and scalability in a regulated healthcare context. - Operate and observe the system’s behavior in the real world. - Improve developer experience and internal tooling where it unlocks leverage. Qualifications - 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with strong knowledge of major parts of our tech stack (AWS, Java, Typescript). - Strong experience in building with LLMs in production, not just prototypes. - Clear enthusiasm for the capabilities and opportunities of AI and agentic systems. - Strong system design skills and comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces. - Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Requirements - Experience designing, building, and operating long running workflows, background jobs, or distributed systems (strong plus). - Familiarity with healthcare, regulated products, or safety critical systems (strong plus). - Startup or fast moving product environment experience (strong plus). Benefits - Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance. - Flexible PTO and work from home options. - Professional development budget and support for continuing education. - Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on chronic disease management and patient outcomes. - Collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on improving healthcare accessibility and affordability. Company Description 9amHealth is an AI-enabled virtual specialty care platform focused on managing high-cost chronic conditions at scale. The company partners with employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers to deliver comprehensive, cost-effective medical care for individuals living with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Members receive access to specialized clinicians, including endocrinologists, obesity medicine specialists, and clinical pharmacists, at-home lab testing, prescription medications, and lifestyle support. Founded in 2021 and backed by leading healthcare investors like Define Ventures, SemperVirens, 7Wire Ventures, and The Cigna Group Ventures.
