Technical Sales Representative
Zekelman Industries
• Performs technical sales and market development activities with contractors, engineering firms, designers, specifiers, and end users to increase product awareness and demand. • Conducts in-person customer visits, jobsite consultations, technical presentations, lunch-and-learn sessions, and design-stage meetings. • Gathers market intelligence, monitors competitive activity, and communicates project developments to support business strategy. • Educates contractors, engineers, and fire protection professionals on product availability, technical capabilities, applicable codes, standards, and installation best practices. • Identifies upcoming projects and influences specifications to secure Wheatland product approval and specification. • Tracks projects throughout the design, bidding, and installation lifecycle to maintain specification continuity and customer engagement. • Supports contractors during bidding and submittal phases by providing technical documentation and product expertise. • Represents Wheatland Tube at trade shows, industry conferences, association events, and technical seminars. • Evaluates quality claims by conducting onsite investigations, gathering data, and coordinating with the Quality Assurance team to resolve customer concerns. • Collaborates with Outside Sales Representatives to achieve territory objectives, share project intelligence, and deliver exceptional customer support. • Partners with Quality, Operations, Marketing, and Product Management teams to align customer requirements with business capabilities. • Conducts outreach activities with colleges and universities through presentations, career fairs, and student engagement initiatives. • Supports special technical sales and market development projects as assigned. • Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
- 3–5 years of experience in technical sales, mechanical or piping systems, fire protection, steel products, or a related industry.
- Experience supporting contractors, engineers, designers, or specifiers preferred.
- Understanding of steel pipe manufacturing, installation practices, and applicable industry standards including NFPA, ASTM, and UL/FM.
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to present information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and mobile technology.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25–50%, including occasional overnight travel.

• Play a critical role in expanding Evolv’s footprint within high-value enterprise customers, representing one of the company’s most important growth areas. • Responsible for landing new strategic accounts, navigating complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles, and building long-term partnerships with some of the largest organizations in our target markets. • Lead account strategy, engage senior stakeholders (including executive leadership and legal), and drive consultative sales motions that deliver measurable revenue impact. • Build fluency in Evolv’s products, value proposition, customer use cases, buyer personas, and target verticals within the first 30 days. • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional partners (BDR, Solutions Engineering, Marketing, Channel, Deployment, Customer Success, Finance) and learn Evolv’s sales methodology. • Develop and begin executing strategic account plans for priority enterprise accounts within 60-90 days. • Lead discovery conversations to identify customer needs, key drivers, and potential deal barriers. • Consistently progress and close high-value opportunities and meet or exceed revenue targets through disciplined execution within the first 6-12 months.
• Communicates with customers within the assigned territory on a regular basis to develop rapport and a better understanding of their needs • Identifies, isolates, and pursues new customer acquisitions, and conducts cold-calls for potential leads • Prepares and reviews sales reports by identifying and evaluating problem areas and company progress • Creates and maintains a sales plan within corporate guidelines for the assigned territory that meets and exceeds a profit goal • Provides feedback to the Regional Sales Manager in the planning, forecasting, and management territory • Recommends changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments • Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making recommendations • Significant travel is required to visit current and potential clients as well as overnight travel • Promote a safe workplace by performing all tasks in a safe and thoughtful manner in compliance with all rules, procedures, instructions, devices, equipment and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
