B2B Marketing Content Writer Contract type Freelance Location San Francisco, Georgia Specialty Marketing Salary $50.00/hour - $63.00/hour Remote Yes Reference 511953 Job description B2B Marketing Content Writer The Sage Group’s clients is looking for a B2B Marketing Content Writer. Client develops a cloud computing platform to help companies manage digital workflows for enterprise operations. Manager, Editorial & Content Activation About the Role Workflow by client is a thought leadership platform for business and technology leaders. We publish original reporting, expert perspectives, and research-driven insights on AI, work, and the forces transforming how organizations operate. The platform has a growing subscriber base, active LinkedIn newsletter and email programs, and an always-on paid media plan to support this thought leadership effort. This contract role sits at the intersection of editorial strategy and copywriting. The work spans newsletter and email programs, paid media and promotional assets, and short-form educational content — all in service of building Workflow into a must-read destination for business and technology leaders. You’ll bring both craft and sharp strategic instincts to the work: shaping editorial direction, writing copy that earns attention, and maintaining a voice that feels authoritative while still feeling human. This is a writing-first role with operational rigor. The right person manages their own workstreams, meets deadlines without hand-holding, and uses performance data to make their work better over time. Key Responsibilities Newsletter & Email Programs Own the editorial strategy, planning, and execution of Workflow’s subscriber email and LinkedIn newsletter programs. - Set the editorial direction for both programs — angles, sequencing, story selection — with a clear point of view on what serves the audience and builds long-term engagement. - Write and edit all newsletter and email copy, maintaining a voice that feels editorial and earned, not promotional. - Manage the full production workflow: content calendar, stakeholder coordination, creative handoffs, QA, and publishing. - Track performance (open rates, CTR, subscriber growth, engagement) and translate data into concrete improvements. - Propose and run tests — subject lines, formats, cadence — and bring what you’re learning back to the broader team. Paid Media & Promotional Copy Write the copy that powers Workflow’s always-on paid media plan. - Write copy for digital ads, paid social, sponsored content, and other promotional placements that extend Workflow content off-platform. - Partner with the paid media team to maintain a steady cadence of fresh assets, owning the production calendar from brief to delivery. - Use performance data to inform the next round of creative — you’re iterating, not just executing. Short-Form Editorial Contribute focused, accessible writing to the Workflow content ecosystem. - Write short-form explainers and 101-style pieces for the Workflow site that make complex topics clear and useful for a business audience. - Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure site content aligns with the broader content calendar and reinforces Workflow’s thought leadership positioning. - Bring clarity and editorial judgment to how we explain complex topics for a business audience — making the content accessible without dumbing it down. Qualifications - 10–12 years of experience in content, editorial, and/or lifecycle/email marketing, ideally at a B2B tech company or media organization. - An exceptional writer — your work is clear, punchy, and purposeful. You can write in a voice that isn’t your own and make it sound native. - Demonstrated experience owning email and/or newsletter programs end to end, including writing, production management, and performance analysis — ideally treating them as editorial products with real voice, angle, and audience development thinking. - A genuine editorial mindset — you think about audience, angle, and story, not just channel mechanics. Familiarity with B2B thought leadership content and what makes it land with a business audience is a plus. - Strong operational skills: you can manage multiple workstreams and stakeholder coordination without being micromanaged. Working knowledge of email platforms, CMS tools, and digital analytics expected. - Comfortable with data: you can read channel metrics, draw conclusions, and translate them into action. Familiarity with SEO fundamentals as they apply to content distribution and site copy is a plus. - An AI-native approach to your work — you’re actively using AI tools to sharpen outputs and move faster, not waiting to be told when it’s appropriate. - Background working within or closely alongside an editorial or content team; experience managing paid media creative workflows or working with media/creative agencies is a plus. Location: 100% remote in USA Duration: 3 months + potential extension Compensation: $50-63/hour DOE Hours: 30-35 a week Portfolio: must be able to share relevant writing samples
