Title: Tax Associate Location: Accounting Houston, Texas Austin, United States Department: Accounting Job Description: We are currently seeking a Tax Associate to join our Houston, Texas office. You will work with a select team providing tax compliance services to predominantly manufacturing and distribution clients. You must be able to manage projects, work under time pressures, multitask, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The right candidate will be organized, proactive, and results-oriented. Office/Workplace Locations: The preferred candidate is local to the Houston office on-site. However, qualified candidates local to the Austin, Texas area will also be considered to support the Houston team on a remote basis. What you will do: - Prepare Federal and state corporate, partnership, 1120-F permanent establishment, and individual tax returns - Perform technical tax research on a variety of Federal, state, and international tax topics - Assist with the preparation of income tax provisions for corporate taxpayers under ASC 740 - Provide timely and high-quality services and deliverables that exceed client expectations - Maintain active communication to manage expectations and ensure client satisfaction - Prepare clear, concise work papers and other communications What you need to bring: - 2+ years of professional Federal and state income tax experience, including experience in public accounting - 2+ years of corporate tax preparation experience - BA/BS degree in Accounting or Masters degree in Accounting/Taxation - CPA license or similar certification preferred - Excellent research, writing, and communication skills in English - Process-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Solid organizational skills with the ability to multi-task - Positive team player attitude Desired Qualifications: - Experience in the manufacturing and distribution industry - ProSystem fx Engagement experience - CCH Axcess experience - German writing and communication skills are an advantage but not required Why RÖDL? - We keep our employees current by supplying cutting-edge technology and access to learning opportunities - We invest in the growth of our team members through regular feedback sessions - We recharge as a team by celebrating deadlines and gathering at organized firm events - We applaud the achievement of both career and personal milestones for individual team members on a firm-wide basis What makes the culture at RÖDL USA unique? • Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies for real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, entity structuring, and 1031 exchanges. • Apply and advise on depreciation strategies (MACRS, bonus depreciation, Section 179,) and conduct or review cost segregation studies to maximize deductions. • Prepare and review accounting method change filings (Form 3115) related to depreciation, cost segregation, and accrual-to-cash transitions. • Analyze and advise on passive activity loss rules, material participation tests, and real estate professional status determinations. • Evaluate capitalization vs. expense treatment of development and operating costs under IRC §263A, ensuring accurate classification of deductible and capitalizable expenses. • Review and manage preparation of complex tax returns for partnerships, corporations, individuals, and trusts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. • Oversee partnership tax compliance, including special allocations, capital accounts, basis tracking, Section 754 elections, and K-2/K-3 reporting. • Advise on tax treatment of leasehold improvements, tenant allowances, and business interest expense limitations under Section 163(j). • Identify and apply federal and state tax credits and incentives, including energy-related deductions such as Section 179D. Conduct tax research to support client positions and ensure compliance with current regulations. • Lead and manage client engagements by implementing high-quality standards, identifying inefficiencies, and enhancing service delivery. • Mentor junior staff through training, performance feedback, and career development initiatives. • Build strong client relationships and collaborate with firm leadership on strategic projects and initiatives.
