Director, Pacific Northwest Urban Forestry

Role Description The Director, Pacific Northwest Urban Forestry, will lead American Forests' strategy to advance tree equity across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, focusing on delivering resources, technical assistance, and partnerships to disadvantaged and historically under-resourced communities in cities across the region. This is a field-facing leadership role. The Director will: - Build and maintain strong working relationships with municipalities and councils, state agencies, local federal partners, and community organizations. - Connect partners with American Forests' tools and expertise. - Deliver hands-on technical assistance to help cities and states prioritize, plant, manage, and protect urban trees where they are needed most. - Address systemic barriers that constrain urban forestry at every level. Qualifications - 5-7 years of professional urban forestry experience in the Pacific Northwest. - Established relationships with municipal and state agencies, state urban and community forestry councils, and regional coordinators. - ISA Certified Arborist and/or Certified Urban Forest Professional preferred. - Degree in urban forestry, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field. - Strong knowledge of urban forest planning, canopy assessment, and strategies for equitable community-based urban forestry. - Advanced knowledge of American Forests’ tree equity tools and resources. - Experience working with diverse stakeholders and leading partnerships. - Experience growing and managing complex projects in a remote environment. - Demonstrated ability to pursue revenue generation opportunities. - Ability to navigate municipal systems and priorities. - Experience managing diverse and complex budgets and grants. - Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. - Quick learner with exceptional attention to detail. - Demonstrated commitment to American Forests values.
