Job Description
Director, UX Content Strategist, Developer Experience
Mastercard
Our Purpose Mastercard powers economies and empowers people in 200+ countries and territories worldwide. Together with our customers, we're helping build a sustainable economy where everyone can prosper. We support a wide range of digital payments choices, making transactions secure, simple, smart and accessible. Our technology and innovation, partnerships and networks combine to deliver a unique set of products and services that help people, businesses and governments realize their greatest potential. Title and Summary Director, UX Content Strategist, Developer Experience About the Role Mastercard Developers is the front door for thousands of developers, partners, and enterprises building on Mastercard's API ecosystem. We're looking for a UX Content Strategist to own the content experience end-to-end: from how we organize information to how every word sounds when a developer reads it. And the timing matters. Our API catalog is growing, developer expectations are higher than ever, and AI agents are starting to consume our docs the same way humans do. This isn't a writing role. It's a systems role. You'll shape how developers and AI agents find what they need, understand what they're reading, and trust what they're building on. You'll work at the intersection of product, design, and engineering, embedded in a team that takes developer experience seriously. What You'll Do 1. API Product Storytelling -- Embed with API product owners across Mastercard to understand products deeply and bring them to life on the portal -- Translate technical capabilities into clear, compelling documentation and product narratives that speak to both developers and technical decision-makers -- Create customer-problem-led content that shows how our products solve real challenges customers are facing -- Define content standards for API product pages (structure, voice, required sections) so every product tells a consistent, credible story 2. Information Architecture & Content Structure -- Lead a top-to-bottom overhaul of the Mastercard Developers portal IA to scale with a growing and increasingly complex API catalog -- Define content models, taxonomy, and navigation patterns that make products discoverable for humans and AI agents -- Establish governance frameworks so the portal stays coherent as teams ship new content over time 3. Language Systems & Design Tooling -- Own the Mastercard Developers language style guide, not just as a document, but as a living system baked into the tools designers and writers use every day -- Integrate tone, terminology, and writing standards directly into Figma, component libraries, and content templates -- Drive consistency across UI copy, error messages, onboarding flows, API reference docs, and marketing-adjacent content What We're Looking For - Seasoned practitioner in UX writing, content strategy, or information architecture, ideally in a developer tools, fintech, or API-first product context - Proven track record restructuring complex content systems, not just writing within them - Experience integrating content standards into design tooling (Figma, Storybook, design systems) - Comfort working directly with technical stakeholders: you can read an API spec, ask questions, and turn what you learn into something a developer wants to read - Strong point of view on what good developer content looks like and why it matters - Hands-on experience with docs-as-code workflows (Markdown, Git, static site generators) - Working knowledge of AI discoverability concepts (structured content, semantic markup, LLM-friendly docs) - Background in developer relations or technical writing (a plus, not a requirement) Corporate Security Responsibility All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must: - Abide by Mastercard's security policies and practices; - Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed; - Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and - Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard's guidelines.
