Privacy - Legal Intern

Role Description Rackspace Technology is seeking a Privacy-Legal Intern to support the development and day-to-day operations of our global privacy program. This entry-level internship is designed for current law school students with an interest in privacy and data security. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in privacy, data protection, and records management within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will work under the guidance and supervision of an experienced privacy professional, with structured training and mentorship. Candidates seeking academic credit must coordinate with their school to confirm eligibility and obtain necessary approvals. Internship Location: United States of America, Work from Home Schedule: 20 - 25 hours per week What You Will Learn - Practical, hands-on experience with privacy and data protection matters in a global technology company. - Mentorship from experienced professionals. - Cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Security, Compliance, and Engineering teams. - Professional communication in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment. Key Responsibilities - Support the Chief Privacy Officer in developing the organization’s privacy program, as well as in compliance initiatives and risk assessments. - Conduct research on global privacy laws and emerging regulatory trends and prepare concise briefing memos and summaries for internal stakeholders. - Assist with records retention practices, including organizing retention schedules, mapping data types to retention requirements, and documenting disposition activities. - Help facilitate privacy impact assessments and similar reviews, including information gathering, documentation, and tracking of mitigation measures. - Assist with intake, logging, and handling of data subject requests, including identity verification, status tracking, and preparing draft responses. - Perform administrative and project coordination tasks to ensure program continuity and audit readiness. Qualifications - Current enrollment in an accredited law school, in good academic standing. - Willingness to learn about privacy and data protection, regulatory requirements, and methodologies. - Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex topics into clear, concise outputs. - Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills. - Proficient with office productivity tools and collaboration platforms; ability to learn new systems quickly. - Excellent research, writing, and communication skills. - Comfort with ambiguity and evolving regulatory landscapes in order to solve operational challenges and improve processes while maintaining compliance obligations. Requirements - Internship Location: United States of America, Work from Home. - Schedule: 20 - 25 hours per week. Benefits - Compensation range: $20/hour up to $24/hour, based on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
