• Own end-to-end GL month-end close activities across complex, high-visibility account areas, including preparation and review of account reconciliations • Demonstrate deep ownership of assigned areas which may include, among others, internal-use software, inventory, deferred commissions, marketable securities and investments, complex bank account arrangements, and AP/AR-related accounts • Apply technical accounting judgment to evaluate transactions, research US GAAP guidance (including ASC 842, ASC 360, ASC 350, and others), and document conclusions in clear, audit-ready memos • Serve as a cross-functional business partner to teams including procure-to-pay, treasury, payroll, sales compensation, order-to-cash, and supply chain — anticipating issues before they become close problems • Lead and drive process improvement initiatives — owning the design and implementation of scalable solutions using AI and other automation tools. • Support external audit by preparing PBC schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and maintaining organized, well-documented workpapers • Collaborate actively with team members sharing knowledge and driving continuous improvement through scalable process and tooling enhancements that reduce manual effort and improve team efficiency • Evaluate and champion the adoption of AI and automation tooling to reduce manual effort and improve close quality • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 5+ years relevant accounting experience in both public accounting & industry
- Able to work with a high volume of transactions in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of operational accounting processes (accruals, account reconciliation, month end/year end close)
- Must be able to collaborate and communicate effectively
- Intermediate Excel skills
- CPA (or equivalent) or interest in obtaining CPA (or equivalent)
- Experience with NetSuite
- Experience supporting external audit
- Experience with AI tools such as Claude, Gem, Glean
- Critical thinker, able to implement scalable processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
